What do you advise if I had a abdominal hysterectomy six weeks ago and where my IV was is swollen and painful. Should I be concerned?

Maybe: I would show it to your doctor the IV site may have an infection. Six weeks is a long time for a leaking iV to cause a problem. It is swollen and painful so infection is a strong possibility. I would go asap and start antibiotics if they believe it is infected. ...Read more

Please tell me, could a tummy tuck be done with hysterectomy?

Please tell me, could a tummy tuck be done with hysterectomy?

Convenience vs risk: Certainly this would be convenient. However there are increased risks of performing these procedures simultaneously and these primarily relate to risk of blood loss and deep venous thrombosis (clot) and pulmonary embolus. Commonly following massive weight loss, more than a tummy tuck is required such as a belt lipectomy with breast reduction and brachioplasty and thigh lift to name a few. ...Read more

If I need a hysterectomy in the next year or two and want a tummy tuck how does that work? Which comes first.

If I need a hysterectomy in the next year or two and want a tummy tuck how does that work? Which comes first.

First: See a plastic surgeon to see if you are even a candidate for a tummy tuck vis-à-vis your cardiopulmonary symptoms. Only the healthiest of patients should have a concomitant tummy tuck and hiysterectomy. If you smoke quit. You can have the operations in either order but if the TT is 1st, it would be good if the plastic surgeon could open and close for the gyn if they need to go through the abdomen. ...Read more

What kind of and intensity of exercise can I do 6-7 weeks post op from a radical hysterectomy to improve abdominal musculature and reduce tummy overha?

During abdominal hysterectomy, do they also do a tummy tuck?

During abdominal hysterectomy, do they also do a tummy tuck?

Pannus op. Not by GYN: A tummy tuck is not a procedure that is performed by an ob/gyn. And if you have consulted with a plastic surgeon who has agreed to do a panniculectomy at the same time as the abdominal hystrectomy, then it is likely for access issues and s/he will have reviewed with you the increased risk of complications associated with performing the combined procedures. ...Read more

Had total hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. Today have little spotting after my kid slammed down on my tummy. Plus think I might have a uti. Is this normal?

Common often: A uti after surgery is pretty common, and so can a little bleeding. But it is important to call your surgeon. Urinary tract infections after surgery need to be treated promptly. If you have pain, increased bleeding, fever, or vomiting, it is even more important, and if you can't reach your surgeon or primary care doc, go to an UC or ER. ...Read more

I've had gastric bypass and now need to have a hysterectomy. Should I ask or consider a tummy tuck at the same time?

Yes: You should definitely inquire about having the procedures done concurrently as long as there is no unusual risk involved. This will allow you one recovery time rather than spread over two surgeries. If you don't know a plastic surgeon, have your gynecologist recommend one. ...Read more
