Swollen Throbbing Thumb
A swollen right thumb extremely painful and throbbing. No known injury. Gardening yesterday possibly got something in it but no sign of anything.
My thumb is swollen/hurts a good bit I canmove it just can't grab/open stuff without throbbing pain. Cld it be stubbed or maybe broke? What can do?
Paranyxhia: Sounds like infection or inflammation in the tissue around the nail bed. Hot compress and anti inflammatory like Advil or aleve (naproxen) might help. No heat: Heat to this type of injury will only increase the swelling and black-n-blue. This is a crush injury and can hurt and take as long to resolve even if not broken. See doctor: Considering the symptoms you describe, it is possible you have an infection of your nailbed, which could be spreading - also known as "paronychia". You are able to move it nicely and its not swollen. I am sure the pain will subside in a few days time, as it was possibly due to being under your bodyweight.
If not improving after a week or so, then get yourself evaluated by an orthopod.
