I think you are on: the right track thinking that this could be Athlete's Foot. Making sure, probably by seeing a Podiatrist or Foot Specialist, might be your best first step. I can't tell from your question if your soles are also red and swollen or NOT red and swollen. If yes, a rare condition called erythromelalgia might be considered. Tinea Pedis: It sounds like a tinea pedis or athletes foot. Fungus can be very resistant to medication. Put lotrimin (clotrimazole) AF cream as well as hydrocortisone cream 15 three times a day for a week.
