Inflammation, probabl: Sounds like you are talking about the joint space in the anlle which is covered with a membrane which can swell with inflammation or trauma. Not likely to be a bone cancer as they are quite rare. ...Read more

Normal: Sounds like classic olecranon bursitis. Avoid any friction across your elbow. Try using elbow pads if you can't avoid placing friction across your elbow. Neosporin: Neosporin is a good first step at protecting an open wound. Can also apply vaseline through the day if it stings. If area becomes very red and painful next few days see an MD to make sure not a staph infection. Tempting to pop lesions but really not a good idea. Always try hot soaks and layer of vaseline to soften skin and let it "pop" on it's own. ...Read more

X-ray may help: X-ray is needed to rule out bone injury and if struck directly you could have broken your kneecap. If there is a fracture it must be treated. Bursa's don't rupture in initial injuries because they are normally deflated, but you can have blood filling the bursa or inside the joint which is painful. With cuts and any possibility of a fracture you should go to the ER because of risk of bone infection. ...Read more
