Both my hands stay swollen and numb. It's worse in cold weather. They crack and bleed. They turn purple and red.

Need more informatio: A dermatologist will help you. She will be interested in your activities and job. Wet work? Food handling? Hands exposed to cold? What have you tried so far? Meanwhile make sure you have warm gloves when you go out or drive. Get a ceramide cream such as Eucerin in a jar or pump bottle. At bedtime soak hands for a long time in hot water, then rub in the cream. Repeat in AM. Use chapstick on cracks. ...Read more

How do you treat ice burns on skin? They are 2 days old and still red and swollen. Area is about half the size of my hand.

How do you treat ice burns on skin? They are 2 days old and still red and swollen. Area is about half the size of my hand.

Frostbite: Since they are 2 days old, they are probably already rewarmed. Treat the area like a thermal burn. Keep it covered with dry sterile dressings. If blisters develop, seek medical attention. If no tetanus booster for last 5 years, one will be needed. Skin may slough and could require professional care. Thanks for trusting HealthTap! ...Read more

Redness on top of both hands. Doesn't itch. Doctor doesn't know what it is. Not eczema bc no itch. Never goes away...Not dermatomyositis or lupus?

Redness on top of both hands. Doesn't itch. Doctor doesn't know what it is. Not eczema bc no itch. Never goes away...Not dermatomyositis or lupus?

See dermatologist: Doubt it's either lupus or dermatomyositis since a persistent hand rash (on back of hands only, not on knuckles) is not a presenting symptom. Would recommend seeing a dermatologist. It may be a benign rash requiring no treatment but could indicate an early sign of some other health problem. If the dermatologist decides to do a biopsy, this is often the best way to figure out what is causing the rash. ...Read more

Multiple things: Ask your doctor if you may have raynaud's phenomenon, which turns fingers and toes blue. Also your doctor can check for arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome, or other causes. A rheumatologist would be helpful; rheumatologists diagnose and treat autoimmune diseases, arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions like what you are describing. ...Read more

My nail is swollen but not red and there was white skin like a blister on it so I scraped it off and there is a dent, it looks like I have two layers?

My nail is swollen but not red and there was white skin like a blister on it so I scraped it off and there is a dent, it looks like I have two layers?

Toenails: From what it sounds like, you may have removed the cuticle, a layer of skin that can grow along with the nail & is easily removed. Nails are multi-layered & the dents will likely disappear as the nail grows out, normal. If you do see thickening or darkening of the nail, consider possible fungal infection & see your doctor for treatment. A podiatrist can address any other toenail related issue. ...Read more
