A sliver goes in -: -smoothly, but has rough edges, & when pulled out, there can B a wood fragment left behind. Even if not, U probably have an infection from the contaminated wood. Best 2 C a fellowship trained hand surgeon. A small residual fragment is hare 2 C on imaging . Many times it just has 2B explored, & hope it is all removed. Probably a ganglion : Cyst. Typically come from a joint. Can be very painful. Most hand bumps are benign. Typically can be aspirated with a needle and decompressed or otherwise surgical excised. Used to call them bible beater lesions because the biggest book on the house was the bible and by smacking it with the 'good book' caused them to rupture. I do not recommend this though. Hand and finger pain: Depends on many factors i.E what joints, how intense is the pain, how constant, how dysfunctional you are (what can you and can't you do) etc... So need to know a lot more details. A visit to your doctor with a good history and physical and x-rays will tell a lot. While arthritis is a likely possiblity you need to have it checked.
