Inflammation: Will certainly occur with an injury. Ice early, elevation then warmth later.
The problem is that this presupposes that the injury Stopped occurring. If there is continuing injury, it's going to stay inflamed.
Infection OR a retained shard of glass will keep the area inflamed until it is treated.

Both of my little toes are red and swollen is there anything at home I can do?

Shoes or Toes.: The first thing to do is find the cause of the redness and swelling. Since it involves both little toes, my first guess is that your shoes have something to do with it. Of course, the other way to look at it is that your toes are to big. The solution is to change the style of the shoes or change the style of the toes. My child has a calluse on her pinky toe and it looks a little swollen what do I do?

Wart or callous?: Hard to say based on your description. Strange for a kid to get a single callous on pinky toe, although I suppose it is possible. It is more likely a type of wart, for which an OTC salycilic acid preparation may be used. Neither callouses nor warts "swell." They do grow in size; but if there's swelling or redness, that is inflammation, possibly related to infection, which should be evaluated. ...Read more

See a podiatrist: There isn't really a quick fix. Get it checked properly and the podiatrist can remove the sliver of nail that is causing the problem - nail avulsion. If it is a chronic problem, the avulsion can be permanent and not bother you again. ...Read more
