Chikenpox can cause neck TB to reoccur again? Got swollen lymph nodes under chin, ear & back of head. Is tb come back or is it due to chikenpox?

Mgt/workup: I would recommend an evaluation for TB. A chest radiograph and possibly cultures are indicated.

When you have chickenpox, there also are lymph nodes which enlarge, but in six weeks should return to normal. ...Read more

1cm swollen lymph node under chin from 1 week. I don't have any other symptoms. I have shoulder pain. May be cancer? I am 18

Probably not: You are 18, and your lymph nodes are supposed to swell when you have an infection or even a canker sore. It's way way more likely that this is just a normal lymph node doing its job--helping your immune system fight off bacteria and viruses. 1cm is still normal size, and 1 week is a short time. I bet you won't be able to feel it in another week! Try not to worry. Shoulder pain=unrelated. ...Read more

I have a swollen lymph node under chin size of a pea from 3weeks. It is movable and soft and my blood test and urine test are normal. Tensed please help?

Observe for now.: Lymph nodes in the neck or under the jaw usually enlarge due to infections, and will regress in time. With no symptoms, the lymph node soft and less than 1 cm, it can be observed for up to 3 months. If it increases in size, is tender or associated with other symptoms such as fever, night sweats or weight loss, or if additional lymph nodes become enlarged, then a biopsy might be needed. ...Read more

I'm 18, have one swollen lymph node under chin won't go away 3 docs said not to worry, post nasal drip won't go away. Cancer? Help please

DOUBT Cancer!: Mild lymphadenopathy is very common with cold symptoms and can even be allergy mediated at this time of the "Fall Allergy Season." It may take weeks for the swelling to go down. The more you feel the node and palpate it, the longer it will stay enlarged and the more likely it will get irritated. Try rest, fluids, and ask your Dr. for an inhaled corticosteroid nasal spray to help with the PND. ...Read more

Swollen lymph node under chin for 4 months. Had CT, doc said was fine. Size of small pea. Why still swollen? Not sick. Overall health great. Worry?!?

Stop worrying: Mine's the size of a large lima bean and I've had it since second year of med school. If it's staying the same size and isn't obviously fixed to important stuff, just forget about it. You'd be amazed how many people have these -- a majority of folks have a small pea-sizer or two. ...Read more

Reactive: Lymph node enlargement within the head and neck region in young people be most often a reaction to infection or some other irritant, although the exact cause may be difficult to identify. Of course, it can also be due to involvement with or reaction to cancer. If no cause is identified and the node does not go back to normal within a few weeks, a biopsy may be necessary ...Read more

Swollen lymph node under chin. Have had a sinus infection but got a small tattoo on my ankle yesterday. Either of those? Scared of cancer of course.

Submental node: The lymph system is composed of conduits, and nodes, which filter the lymph fluid. An infected throat will cause a tender, swollen node in the neck, on either side. So will a tooth infection. Try to find out if you have a bad tooth or infected tonsils. If it persists, go to a doctor or a dentist. It is not likely caused by cancer. ...Read more

I have swollen lymph nodes under my chin and neck what could it be I was recently prescribed amoxicillen and cipro (ciprofloxacin) will either clear my problem up?

Possibly, however ..: You are describing enlargement of lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy) which are located in various places of the body and function as defenses fighting infections and other foreign material in the blood. You could have a skin infection in head/neck area, a tooth infection, etc. If the nodes don't go away after the rx, first see a dentist, and if that doesn't care of it, an ENT doc. Important. ...Read more

What is the cause of a swollen lymph node under my chin? It is not painful, however, sometimes it gets aggravated by swallowing. Is this worrisome?

Probably not: Lymph nodes enlarge in response to inflammation since they are designed to help fight this. The oral cavity is a major source of minor inflammation/infection and a swollen lymph node is not surprising. If it remains small, is soft and non-tender, and you have no other symptoms it should resolve. If not, have it seen by your family doctor or an ent. ...Read more

I've had a swollen lymph node under my chin for 3 months. My doc told me not to worry but I'm scared. Is it really ok for it to be swollen this long?

Maybe: Without being able to feel this node it is difficult to say, but if it is soft, movable (not fixed to underlying tissue), not particularly tender, hot or red, then there is a high likelihood that it is entirely benign. It is possible that it is enlarged because you have a persistent focus of inflammation in the area (dental or gum problem, etc.). This is a common area for enlarged nodes. ...Read more

I have a very swollen lymph node under my chin that presented two days ago. I'm not sick, and this happens once every few months. Should I be worried?

Lymphadenpathy: This node sounds like it is doing what it is supposed to do. Fighting inflammation. You may have a dental issue, a low grade inflammation in the area, trauma, and so on. Would not worry unless this becomes permanent, hard to the touch, and fixed to underlying tissue or it is becoming progressively larger. Good luck. ...Read more
