I had one swollen lymph node, no other symptoms. Removed node today for biopsy. If it comes back cancer, will removal be enough?

I had one swollen lymph node, no other symptoms. Removed node today for biopsy. If it comes back cancer, will removal be enough?

Cannot say: Hopefully, it will not be malignant. Should it be malignant, you will likely have a workup with scans and other tests to determine the extent and maybe even the origin of the cancer. That will determine what other modalities of therapy you are offered. All options (surgery, radiation, or chemo) are on the table until more is known. Again, hope it is not cancer. Best to you. ...Read more

Swollen lymph nodes and no other symptoms. What is going on?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. Swollen lymph nodes/glands, no other symptoms. What could this be?

Hard to say: Its hard to say what this might be. It depends on things like how big it is, how long it's been there, whether it's growing, whether it's painful, and how it feels...

It is probably worth getting checked out soon; however, if it is growing it would need to be checked out immediately. ...Read more

Can cat scratch fever cause swollen lymph nodes with no other symptoms? Around barn cats at times and have a reg. Cat in the house.

That is most common: Single, large, mildly painful lymphnode is the most common presentation after the initial several small papules (zit-like) at the site-of-infection/innoculation, usually 1-3 wks later. Most of the cases resolve on their own without treatment in 2-12 month, but some have fever/fatigue, headache, anorexia, joint pain, and other rare/severe symptoms. Consult to make sure this is catscratch. Good luck. ...Read more

Many reasons: L lymph nodes can be a large because they may drain infection, they may be more of a systemic inflammatory, if they were one side suggested may well be a local area.
