Herpes, syphilis: The main STDs that cause enlarged/inflamed lymph nodes in the groin are syphilis and initial genital herpes. In both, there usually are obvious genital sores as well. Herpes sores and nodes usually appear in a few days; usually 2-6 weeks for syphilis. Most inflamed nodes in the groin are not due to any STD. No: Unprotected sex is only a problem if the male partner is uncircumcised. Here the foreskin can harbor both HPV and HIV. In either instance developing the infectious process could take months. With HPV in situ CA of cervix would develop and nodes in axilla would not be involved. With HIV the partner would almost have to know of his problem and the eventual disease becomes systemic. ...Read more
