Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

Lung tumor: Chest or mediastinal lymph nodes associated with a lesion in the lung most often represent metastasis from a lung primary. This can further be defined by mediastinoscopy and lymph node biopsy or if in the proper position, thoracoscopy removing the lung nodule. I have had swollen lymph nodes on my neck and parotiditis, now they found a mass in my lung and half is not working?

Maybe sarcoidosis?: ..Usually a benign condition, but can cause lung or other organ scarring in a small % of patients. It also sounds like you have a doctor, and for the complex situation you describe, you are better off asking questions of docs who know your history, than trying to figure it out online. I tell my patients, use information from the internet to get the questions to ask your doc, not the answers. ...Read more

I have swollen lymph nodes, runny nose, frequent cough, and high fever and weeze noise In lungs, what could this be?

Probably cold or flu: Probably just a bad cold or flu. But with "high fever" you need to contact your doctor. Maybe s/he will want to examine you to check for bronchitis or pneumonia that might need an antibiotic. If chills, shortess of breath, if you cough up any blood, or if you have other lung disease like asthma, do it now, even though it's Sunday pm. Otherwise it should be safe to wait until tomorrow. Good luck! ...Read more

What causes swollen lymph nodes in chest?

What causes swollen lymph nodes in chest?

It depends on size: Unless these nodes are large (more than 2cm) you do not need to worry. But many diseases affect lymph nodes. Some of the considerations include infections (tb, sarcoid, fungal infections), lymph gland cancers like lymphomas or cancer spread from the lungs or elsewhere in the body. But I would not worry unless they are large enough as the radiologists often over read them anytime they are >0.5cm. ...Read more

Feeling painful and slightly swollen lymph nodes in chest area, please help?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well. ...Read more

Hi I've been having chest pains. Had a CT scan done and they found I had two swollen lymph nodes. I have no other symptoms becides the chest pain.?

Quite a few causes: Chestwall itself, esophagus/stomache, lungs, heart, pancreas, and even liver problems can cause chest pain. In the young, more likely chestwall itself or reflux is causing pain. As we get older heart disease becomes more common cause of concern. Since u gave only limitted info, it is diiffult to tell what you have. Please repost a more specific question or consult your doc. If I had a CBC and chest xray in december and they were clear, should I be concerned of swollen lymph nodes in my neck? What could be causing them?

If I had a CBC and chest xray in december and they were clear, should I be concerned of swollen lymph nodes in my neck? What could be causing them?

Lymphadenopathy: Multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the neck can be residual of a viral illness but they should shrivel over time. In my experience this is more common in younger patients. In adults, if they don't recede or if they enlarge further a biopsy is often done to see what the pathology is. A normal CBC and chest xray isn't enough to rule out some diseases. Follow up with your md. ...Read more

What is mildly prominent non calcified lymph nodes. In left lung?

Probably nothing: Taken by itself, out of context, this phrase from a ct report means nothing. But medicine, and your health, do not exist out of context, and this forum is not a good place to ask this question. The best place is in the office of a good doctor who can explain these findings in the context of your situation, but it still prbably means nothing of importance. ...Read more

Mildly enlarged lymph nodes on lungs after pet scan. What do this mean?

Probably reactive: Your lymph nodes are "factories" for your immune system to produce a variety of substances and cells for fighting off infection. They can enlarge with even a cold. The swollen "glands" in the neck when you have strep throat are really lymph nodes.

So, mildly enlarged nodes, especially if they have no or little FDG uptake on a pet/ct scan, are likely benign. Please see your health care provider. ...Read more

If lymph nodes were clear and a typical lung carcinoid was removed stage 1 can it have gone to the liver?

If lymph nodes were clear and a typical lung carcinoid was removed stage 1 can it have gone to the liver?

Highly unlikely: Typical lung carcinoids grow very slowly, the slowest on average of all lung cancers. And they metastasize late in their development. For a stage I (less than 3cm by definition) typical lung carcinoid to have metastasized to the liver before spreading to any local or regional lymph nodes is highly unlikely. And Lung carcinoids are more likely to metastasize to bone, GI carcinoids go to liver. ...Read more
