Concerned: I would be concerned. Mainly because of your age. Usually, the concern on long flights is someone can possibly get a clot in their leg. The concern is that normally your foot is not swollen. It is possible you have a stress fracture, though, i wold expect some degree of pain. There are two issues: Here. Having high blood pressure and not taking meds is a serious recipe for disaster. I would encourage you to take your meds as prescribed. For your unilateral foot swelling there are many possible causes including venous insufficiency, gout, infection, s/p injury, DVT and feel this should be examined by a medical doctor or podiatrist as well. ...Read more

Check for blood clot: Hi. Asymmetrical edema always prompts a leg ultrasound (called a duplex Doppler) to look for a deep vein blood clot (thrombosis, DVT). Has she recently been immobilized, had a long flight, had gyn or orthopedic surgery, etc? It's usually a mechanical factor that causes asymmetric edema (i.e., NOT heart failure, kidney disease, high blood pressure in the lungs, liver disease, etc). Get to her doc. ...Read more

Unilateral foot : Swelling? I assume it is not painful. It could be lymphedema, caused by anything that interrupts lymph drainage from the foot. If you are diabetic, you could have decreased sensation in the foot and traumatize it repeatedly without knowing, condition called charcot's foot. But not likely with normal mri, which is a very accurate imaging test. I am stumped, sorry. ...Read more
