Hit right knee very hard on corner of counter. Swollen and red with Trouble moving it. Is their a risk of a blood clot?

Possibly.: Prolonged resting the knee and being immobile can increase the risk of a blood clot. So make sure you are exercising your toes, ankle and do breathing exercises and keep well hydrated.
if being immobilized for more than 3-5 days, your Doc should start you on some blood thinners for a few weeks.

A: A swollen leg with a history of blood clots is a worrisome combination. You could very well have another clot, and blood clots in the legs can lead to bad complications. You need to be examined for this and have an ultrasound study.

Do you have a history of injecting IV drugs into the veins in your legs? That's a great way to damage the veins and put you at risk for leg swelling and/or blood clots. ...Read more
