Lymph nodes: The lymph nodes usually enlarge as response to an infection in the vicinity. It lasts maximum 2-3 weeks and as the infection goes away (with antibiotics usually) the lymph nodes disappear. Swollen gland: Which gland is swollen? Cheek or at the angle of the jaw and under the tongue.? When you massage the jaw or cheek is thee a bad taste in the mouth? If so, you could have an infected gland you would need antibiotics in that case. The pain in the ear is referred pain from the swelling. Several things: Your flu shot was early enough to protect you from those 3 strains but there has been other strains this year that have infected those who got the shot. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications.
