Time to see ENT: I would recommend a complete head and neck exam by an ent. Sometimes people start to feel lumps that were always there, so compare to the other side of your neck. If the lump is there and painless, we need to rule out a tumor. A good exam and sometimes a needle aspiration biopsy are necessary. You're at increased risk if you were ever a smoker. Tonsillitis?: If the gland is inside it could be tonsillitis. If it is outside we call it adenopathy. They are lymph glands which the body uses in response to inflammation or infection or foreign body irritation. It still could be infection in nature, and strep is no the only cause of infection.
