Swollen forearm. Just got out of hospital for other things but d-dimer was negative when admitted. No real pain just tightness. Any ideas? Worried.

Rule out...: I can't examine you, but my foremost concern is a compartment syndrome. Deep vein thrombi, for which we check with d-dimer, are very rare in the arm in the absence of grave underlying disease. Any bad pain or loss of pulse -- get seen right away. ...Read more

Hard to say: I would get a good exam and x-ray how about an MRI for a soft tissue mass? What about an evaluation of your circulation? You didn't describe any pain so it may not be a significant problem? ...Read more

Multiple Sources: I suspect you have multifactorial pain meaning you likely have shoulder pathology involving the biceps tendon and rotator cuff but I am also concerned you have other sources for pain given your distal hand/forearm swelling. Fell on elbow, diagnosis w bursitis. 2 weeks of motrin/ice. Inner forearm swollen, not tip if the elbow. Also have a sm fluid filled sac in the area. Normal?

Normal: Sounds like classic olecranon bursitis. Avoid any friction across your elbow. Try using elbow pads if you can't avoid placing friction across your elbow. It could take weeks to months to resolve and you are predisposed to having it again in the future. Draining the fluid is usually a waste of time. ...Read more

Possible phlebitis?: What you describe could be superficial phlebitis. Have you had a recent blood draw or IV these are common causes of this superficial phlebitis in the forearm. Check with a doctor. often this can be treated with warm compress and it gets better on its own. ...Read more
