A volatile solvent: Many times a herpetic (cold sore) lesion can be aborted if caught in the premonition phase (when you feel the burning sensation) by the topical application of a volatile solvent such as ether or chloroform.

See your oral surgeo: Many times if it is there for more then 2 weeks oral surgeon can furher take sample of tissue and check out in a lab what is the cause. If it is more then 2 weeks I will not wait too long may be you have serious problem. Good luck. Read more

Lip lump: If it's an ulcer that has been there a few days than maybe. But usually cold sores on on the dry part of the lip and aren't lumpy. There are other things, like mucoceles (come after accidentally biting the lip) or tumors (including cancer) that could be the cause. Get it checked out if it isn't going away. Read more
