Swelling in armpit: hello Alice, the swelling does sound like an infected hair follicle and these can become very big very quickly, so if you have a swelling about a dime size (1cm dia) and if it is red and painful to the touch, I would apply some warm compresses today and if it is at all bigger or worse, I would call in for a consultation to get an antibiotic to take for 10 days.
