Agree with you: I think you may be right on track! Many viral infections, especially, can cause lymph nodes to swell, and the armpit nodes are commonly painful. I would check to see if she has a fever at all, and look for any other signs of viral infection (sudden fatigue, sinus drainage, runny nose, dark circles under eyes, etc.). Seen a Doctor lately: If your lymph glands are enlarged and growing bigger, you need to have them checked by your physician. Exam: Good question! Often it is difficult for a patient to know the difference between a suspicious mass in the axilla (armpit) and an obstructed or infected sweat gland or hair follicle. Confusing: If your GP was not able to palpate a lump, then is it gone?? Did you try and show him/her where it was located?? Anyway, chances are it is a reactive lymph node which should go away within a week. Suggest seeing your GP again if it is still there after 2 weeks ...Read more
