Here are some ...: If just happening overnight, one has to concern about DVT (deep vein thrombosis) although it's uncommon for bilaterally simultaneous occurrence. So, watch such swelling closely for potential progress, go to urgent care timely, & don't wait until the last minute. Toe pain: These are signs of inflammation or injury. If there's no history of trauma or abnormal pressure on the toe from tight footwear, inflammation from gout, other forms of arthritis, ingrown toenail or infection are possibilities. Please see your doc.: I would recommend you be examined by your doctor and possibly have laboratory testing and possibly x-rays. Need more info...: Is ankle swelling bilaterally symmetrical, involving evenly or locally/ regionally? Do you have short of breath? Have you had history of congestive heart failure...? Hotdogs alone at most should just increase salt intake leading to edema in patients with marginal heart function..
