A week ago, I severely rolled my ankle. I have been icing it and keeping it wrapped. It is still swollen around the ankle bone. Did I tear a ligament?
Ice: Rice: rest - don't walk around a lot on it if it hurts to. Ice - ice compresses, 20 minutes every hour. Compression - wrap in an ace bandage or a neoprene wrap. Elevation - put your foot up on a chair, ideally elevate above the heart if it's really swollen. If it's not getting better in a day or two go see a doctor. ...Read more
I'm a runner. My inner ankle bone has gotten larger & is tender after a run. It is not swollen. I have sprained that ankle badly in the past. Advice?
Tendinitis? : Based on your brief description, I would first consider posterior tibial tendinitis. Osteoarthritis is another consideration since this can develop years after a sprain. Stress fracture is possible but less likely. In the absence of a full exam and x-ray, I would use an orthotic/arch support, strengthen the ankle with a theraband and avoid running through pain- either rest or shorter runs. ...Read more

Go to physiotherapy: If you had x-rays that showed no broken bones, you likely have a moderate ankle sprain. It is common with ankle sprains to have up to 6 weeks of swelling. General ideas to treat this include an ankle brace, icing, anti-inflammatory medication and giving it time. I would recommend consulting a physiotherapist to work on ankle motion, swelling control and strengthening exercises. ...Read more

My ankle bone kills after i ran a week of cross country and still hirys to walk and run on, also its swollen and bruised. What is it?
See a doctor: If you have pain, swelling and bruising and if it is not improving you want to have it checked out. Perhaps the cartilage in your ankle joint got irritated, or you may have strained ligaments. You want to make sure you do not have a stress fracture- x-rays and other diagnostic tests can help determine that. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Sprained my ankle a week ago and the only area still swollen is the ankle bone. It is also still very tender. Does it sound like it could be broken?
Yes and no: The mere fact that it’s swollen doesn’t mean that it’s broken but it could be. You have a few ligaments attaching to your lower leg bones (tibia & fibula) and these could also cause the swelling, and indeed a fracture (avulsion). My advice would be to see a doctor. This is the only way you’ll know for sure whether it’s broken or not. ...Read more

Scar tissue: There may be a scar tissue from your sprained ankle if not properly immobilized or treated. Glad to hear there isn't a broken bone or fracture, but scar tissue from an ankle sprain can have residual swelling and pain. You may need further treatment and advanced imaging (MRI) to determine other possible pathologies present. Hope this helps , best of luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
