A day or two: Before it usually gets better, it can be viral pharyngitis, and the Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) won't work with it, give it until the end of the day, salt water gargles and pain killers like acetaminophen, rest and fluids, if no improvement, call/see your doctor for re-assessment, best wishes ...Read more

Lymphadenitis: The bacteria causing strep throat can travel from the tonsils/throat into the lymph nodes. These nodes capture the infection, preventing it from getting it into the blood stream. Swollen painful neck glands, fever 100.6, chills, painful to Tilt my head back, headache, and sore throat.?

Maybe strep, etc...: Nose and throat symptoms can be from cold viruses, strep throat, allergies, etc... It can be difficult to tell what the cause is. Can allergic rhinitis w/ severe post nasal drip and painful swollen l-neck gland bring on high blood press. Prescription zyrtec, singulair, (montelukast) flonase, motrin?

Can allergic rhinitis w/ severe post nasal drip and painful swollen l-neck gland bring on high blood press. Prescription zyrtec, singulair, (montelukast) flonase, motrin?

Probably not: Allergic rhinitis is an immunological disease caused by mast cell degranulation and the release of mediators of inflammation, especially histamine. I suppose it is possible that mast cell inflammatory mediators could alter blood pressure. Also another possibility is anxiety caused by the presence of severe allergic response. In general most cases of hypertension are not caused by nasal allergy. ...Read more

How long does it take for swollen glands in neck to go down after having a cold? What is considered normal?

Is what normal?: The symptoms of neck pain, swollen glands, fluid behind the ear drum and cold sore all strongly suggest that you have a viral upper respiratory infection. The treatment with amoxacillin therefore might not be indicated. A general rule that most ENT physicians follow is this: if symptoms are getting worse after 5 days or not better after 10 days, we recommend empirically an antibiotic. ...Read more
