Maybe strep, etc...: Nose and throat symptoms can be from cold viruses, strep throat, allergies, etc... It can be difficult to tell what the cause is. If symptoms only last 1-2 days, it is more likely allergies or irritation. Can allergic rhinitis w/ severe post nasal drip and painful swollen l-neck gland bring on high blood press. Prescription zyrtec, singulair, (montelukast) flonase, motrin?
Probably not: Allergic rhinitis is an immunological disease caused by mast cell degranulation and the release of mediators of inflammation, especially histamine. I suppose it is possible that mast cell inflammatory mediators could alter blood pressure. Also another possibility is anxiety caused by the presence of severe allergic response. In general most cases of hypertension are not caused by nasal allergy. ...Read more

How long does it take for swollen glands in neck to go down after having a cold? What is considered normal?
Depends..: Many infections can linger even after sore throat has resolved. In general most reactive lymph nodes diminish in size after a couple weeks once the agent is gone. Mono, for example can take months....also sometimes lymph nodes get larger but don't go back to the original size. I suggest you see someone if it hasn't gone down 2-3 weeks after improvement in case you need to be examined or tested ...Read more
Yes and maybe...: Gingivitis will start a response in your immune system that would potentially involve lymph nodes in your neck. Oral infection does not however directly recruit lymph nodes in the groin area. While it's possible you have a systemic condition that is affecting both areas, it may be multiple problems at the same time. Brush & floss daily; see your dentist & your physician. ...Read more

Is what normal?: The symptoms of neck pain, swollen glands, fluid behind the ear drum and cold sore all strongly suggest that you have a viral upper respiratory infection.
