D I had a stroke two years ago and today is clear that it was caused by patent foramen ovale. Can I keep doing sports like swimming, running, fitness?

Probably: First, we can rarely guarantee that a stroke is caused by a pfo--20-25% of the general population has a pfo, which means that anyone who has a stroke for any reason has a 20% chance of having a pfo. That being said, the younger and healthier a patient is, the more likely it is that the pfo was related to stroke. There is no contraindication to exercise with pfo. Check with your doctor to be sure. ...Read more

Is it ok for my 7yrs old boy to play tennis and swimming ? I heard that there are certain sports don't match together is this true.?

Sports for children: I would disagree that certain sports "don't match together". Tennis and swimming are both excellent for helping children develop motor skills, cardiovascular health, self esteem as well as safety with respect to swimming. Sports should be fun and not overly focused on competition, or pressure, but rather to complement and enhance quality of life. ...Read more

What exercise should be avoided by people with RVH? I usually do weight training, cardio, yoga, swimming & muaythai. Is it safe? Im addicted to sports

EKG or Echo?: You obviously have some cardiac issues but apparently are on medications to control rate. Is the RVH a finding from an EKG only or is it from Echo cardiogram? If diagnosis is from Echo then I would be more considered. Regardless, talk to your cardiologist (or consult with one) about this. You should determine WHY you have RVH, and how severe, before deciding limitations. ...Read more

Does swimming improve sciatica?

Does swimming improve sciatica?

Often beneficial: Swimming strengthens paraspinous muscles and is very beneficial. Whether it helps in the acute phase of sciatica very much depends on how inflamed the nerve is and where the disc herniation and/or bone spur is relative to the nerve root. While generally beneficial, swimming may aggravate the pain, in which case rest, anti-inflammatory meds and possibly micro-discectomy may help. ...Read more
