If I have a sore neck how long should I wait to go back to swimming? Is it okay to swim with a sore neck?

If I have a sore neck how long should I wait to go back to swimming? Is it okay to swim with a sore neck?

Wait till resolves: Swimming involves a fair amount of extension and rotation of the neck, both of which can potentially aggravate it. The safest thing would be to wait until your neck soreness resolves and only then gradually resume your swimming. If symptoms persist, don't hesitate to be seen. ...Read more

Can I go swimming with a scabbed over cold sore, that in the last stages of healing?

Can I go swimming with a scabbed over cold sore, that in the last stages of healing?

Wait for complete: healing. Just because the cold sore is scabbed over doesn’t mean it's no longer contagious. Eat, talk, smile, and your scab can break and the fluid can leak out. I've been doing a lot of arm and hand excersises, playing handball and swimming. Could that be why I am sore?

I've been doing a lot of arm and hand excersises, playing handball and swimming. Could that be why I am sore?

Activity: Activity above and beyond what you are used to may promote soreness. The good news is that if you are healthy and are not overdoing it, your muscles will usully get conditioned to do more. Make sure you stretch carefully and thoughtfully and stay limber. And warm up sore muscles and cool down tired ones , both with activity and thermally if injured. ...Read more

I have a sore throat/cough. I went swimming-indoor pool-and next day throat and cough worse. Should I still swim today or rest until all better?

Wait until better: Would be best to wait until feeling better. That way you would not be putting other swimmers at risk from your coughing. Also this will give your body some time to "heal" naturally. ...Read more

My daughter has little fever and sore throat and want took to the swimming pool, does she can do that?

My daughter has little fever and sore throat and want took to the swimming pool, does she can do that?

Interesting question: Sounds like the kid is starting to show signs of an infectious illness. These are often very contageous in the early stages. Unless the pool is your own and she will not place others at risk, I would reconsider taking her out. Your desire to entertain her does not make placing others at risk a reasonable thing to do. ...Read more

A wide range of things can be contracted in swimming settings - ranging from exotic critters to everyday things. Have it checked. She'll be able to do better & enjoy school more too. ...Read more

Swimmer's ear: Not all cases of swimmer's ear (external otitis ) are caused by swimming, but it sounds like this one is. See your doctor for antibiotic ear drops. If your ear is swollen shut see an ENT to clean the ear (which hurts but you'll get better faster) and place a wick in the ear canal. Oral antibiotics are generally not necessary or helpful, unless you've got swelling outside of the ear. ...Read more
