Swimming Great Exercise Sciatica
Often beneficial: Swimming strengthens paraspinous muscles and is very beneficial. Whether it helps in the acute phase of sciatica very much depends on how inflamed the nerve is and where the disc herniation and/or bone spur is relative to the nerve root. While generally beneficial, swimming may aggravate the pain, in which case rest, anti-inflammatory meds and possibly micro-discectomy may help. ...Read more

See a DC or DO: See an osteopathic physician who specializes in osteopathic manipulation, or a good chiropractor. Hard to Say: When pregnant, there are so many things going on. Your hormones are very different causing your ligaments to stretch quite a bit especially in the pelvis resulting in pain. Also the baby's position can place stress on your spine resulting in bulging discs or even herniated disks causing the sciatica pain. Pinched nerve, back:
With the above symptoms, I suspect you may have some pinched nerve in your low back regions...Some people have much pain and others not so much. With symptoms ongoing for months, I suggest seeing a doc for eval, as leaving things too long u may not be able to reverse the neuropathy (numbness in your toes).

Would a central disc herniation (l4/l5) have to be quite big to cause sciatica down both legs? And could it cause pain in front of the thigh?
Lower leg symptoms: L5 nerve impingement (L4-5 level) from a herniated disc can cause weakness in extending the big toe and potentially in the ankle (foot drop). Numbness and pain can be felt on top of the foot, and pain may also radiate into the buttock. S1 nerve impingement (L5-S1) may cause loss of the ankle reflex and/or weakness in ankle push off (patients cannot do toe rises). Numbness and pain in foot noted. ...Read more
I was doing the hamstring leg curl exercise when suddenly I felt a sharp pain near my groin area. It almost felt like testicular pain. Is it sciatica?
More like Groinatica: You likely stretched your inguinal ligament OR you may have stretched one of your upper lumbar nerves which can shoot pain into that area due to the way you were doing the exercise. You may need REST & to back off of the weights. Go LIGHT coming back (real light), ramp up to heavier weights slowly to avoid the same injury. Time to consolidate something like this can be SEVERAL WEEKS or longer.. ...Read more
