Swelling On Shin Below Knee
Swelling on shin (just below the knees) with pain behind the shin. Is it something to do with my UC?
Not likely.: It's unlikely that your symptoms are related to UC. Just below your knee is a bony bump called the "tibial tuberosity." This is where the tendon of one of the four parts of your quadriceps muscle attaches to the tibia or leg bone. Overworking the quads muscle can cause inflammation right there. Acetaminophen, ice and limiting walking, running & stairclimbing for a few days should help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can I still have Osgood Schlatter's Disease without swelling or a bump between your knee and shin?
Osgood Schlatter's: You are too old for Osgoods Schlatter's disease. This injury occurs at the apophysis on the tibia tubercle. The patellar tendon attaches there, so you most likely have patellar tendinitis, aka jumper's knee. Icing, stretching of the quadriceps, knee sleeves, and reducing impact landing for a while can allow it to calm down. Dr Rich Blake ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Pus : Pus is the thick, goopy material in an infection. It is composed of dead inflammatory cells, called neutrophils, and bacteria. The question is whether you have an infection in your joint, which can be serious and probably needs surgical drainage rather quickly or whether there is another cause of your symptoms. One possibility is a blood clot, which can also be very serious and needs immediate treatment. I hope you are getting care immediately and not waiting for an appointment. The patella is another name for the knee cap. The fact that you had surgery before makes infection a real concern. If you have any hardware, it can get covered with bacteria in a layer called biofilm that is resistant to antibiotics. If you have progressive redness or streaks of red going toward your groin, go to an emergency room rather than waiting. Some infections progress rapidly and can make you deathly ill. ...Read more
