Many possible causes: There are many possible causes for a lump at that location, so I would recommend a thorough evaluation by your physician. Possible causes include swollen lymph nodes, benign skin cysts, salivary gland swelling, congenital cysts, or rare tumors. My husband woke up with swelling and pain on left side of neck below jaw, e.R. Dr mentioned lymphoma. Abt not helping, what are other possibilities?

Salivary gland: The pain makes it less likely to be lymphoma. Most lymphomas cause rubbery, enlarged and painless lymph nodes. The fact that this occurred suddenly makes me wonder if he has an obstructed salivary gland which can be very painful and cause swelling in the area you describe, and antibiotics don't help. An infection in the head, mouth or face can cause a swollen lymph node in the same area. Read more

Reached r arm and felt tightening continued down r side to sciatica and swelling and shooting up r side of neck?

Swelling not good: The pain you describe could be due to any number of neurologic or muscoloskeletal problems. I'm thrown by the 'swelling'.If it's just a swelling 'sensation' w/out actual visible or palpable swelling, you most likely have a musculoskeletal problem that could be alleviated by muscle relaxants/pain meds & osteopathic manipulation. Real swelling could indicate lymphatic/blood vessel injury. See dr. ASAP. Read more

Started as pain on top of shoulder now swelling and pain radiating to side of neck. Have implanted aicd also have copd. Related?

Neck/shoulder pain: Doubt this is related to the Implant of the COPD as they are in different areas and most likely not related anatomically and physiologically. Have the swollen muscle examined and treated by the Dr. To get some relief. In the mean time, you can try warm compresses and an NSAID if ok with your Dr. Good luck. Read more
