Sometimes when I step, my big toe feels like it has a sharp rock in it. There is no swelling, redness or joint pain. Does not hurt to the touch?
What is moderate pain and swelling in the joint of my big toe where it joins my foot. I'm 43 and very physically active.?
Overuse...: First thing that comes to mind when you say big toe joint and pain is gout. However, usually the pain is pretty severe, and it's red/inflamed. Very active people can have minor sprains and strains in the great toe that causes inflammation and pain, especially if there is some underlying arthritis that gets flares up. I would start with ibuprofen/rest and if not better in few days see doc. ...Read more

I stubbed my big toe on a door. I have rings of dark bruising around the joints, light bruising across the top of my foot, and mild swelling. Broken?
Hard to tell: It is difficult to tell if a bone is broken without an xray. It can swell and feel quite painful just from a bad bruise. If it is very swollen and bruised and if it is painful to touch over any part of the bone then you may want to get an xray. If you do not get one right away and it is getting better then it is probably not broken. If the pain gets worse or is not going away, then xray is needed. ...Read more

18 days, my big left toe hurts. Swelling on ball, toe hurts to lift and bend down.3 day bruising around joint. Arch hurts. Needle pain on end big toe.
Oh Boy, Not Fun.: Since you did not mention that your suffered an injury to the toe, there must be something else going on. You paint a very convincing picture of a mildly acute gout attack. This is diagnosed clinically so you need to see a doctor. ...Read more

Get a recheck: Stiffness, pain, and swelling are common symptoms after an ankle fracture, even if it is healed.
