The extra fluid can lead to a rapid increase in weight over a short period of time (days to weeks). Swelling can occur all over the body (generalized) or only in one part ...Read more

Sometimes when I step, my big toe feels like it has a sharp rock in it. There is no swelling, redness or joint pain. Does not hurt to the touch?

What is moderate pain and swelling in the joint of my big toe where it joins my foot. I'm 43 and very physically active.?

Overuse...: First thing that comes to mind when you say big toe joint and pain is gout. However, usually the pain is pretty severe, and it's red/inflamed. Very active people can have minor sprains and strains in the great toe that causes inflammation and pain, especially if there is some underlying arthritis that gets flares up. I would start with ibuprofen/rest and if not better in few days see doc. ...Read more

I stubbed my big toe on a door. I have rings of dark bruising around the joints, light bruising across the top of my foot, and mild swelling. Broken?

Hard to tell: It is difficult to tell if a bone is broken without an xray. It can swell and feel quite painful just from a bad bruise. If it is very swollen and bruised and if it is painful to touch over any part of the bone then you may want to get an xray. If you do not get one right away and it is getting better then it is probably not broken. If the pain gets worse or is not going away, then xray is needed. ...Read more

My mother has OA in her right big toe. Big toe joint is brittle and pains with swelling. Do we need to freeze the movement of joint?

18 days, my big left toe hurts. Swelling on ball, toe hurts to lift and bend down.3 day bruising around joint. Arch hurts. Needle pain on end big toe.

Oh Boy, Not Fun.: Since you did not mention that your suffered an injury to the toe, there must be something else going on. You paint a very convincing picture of a mildly acute gout attack. The inflamed big toe joint is not so much red as it is more of a darker plum color. It will hurt to move in any direction and the swelling is sometimes pronounced. This is diagnosed clinically so you need to see a doctor. ...Read more

I am experiencing big toe pain (quality: warm to touch, pain in joint). The following also describe me: Joint swelling, Foot pain, Swollen foot, and Difficulty walking. What should I do?

Urgent care: Pain, swelling, and warmth point to an inflammatory cause rather than a mechanical cause such as osteoarthrosis or ill-fitting shoes. Gout is high on the list of diagnoses but unusual at age 21. What concerns me are the possibilities of infection or fracture. I would seek help urgently through your primary care physician or urgent care. ...Read more

I have bad pain in my toe joints on my left foot, no trauma brought this on, there is no swelling or redness. My ankle was the same the other week?

Gout?: With no trauma and pain in joints particularly known for its' love of the big toe (halux), it could be uric acid crystals settling into joint. Age and diet related, so just a wild guess. Go to an md, there at least 2 medications that work for this ailment. Good luck! Rule out rheumatoid arthritis. ...Read more

Had ankle fracture yr ago. Some stiffness, swelling. Most pain front of joint when bending knes over foot. Some popping and pain near inside archilles?

Get a recheck: Stiffness, pain, and swelling are common symptoms after an ankle fracture, even if it is healed. The extra bone formation around the front or back can cause the pain you are experiencing with bending. Xrays and an evaluation by your foot specialist or orthopedist is recommended. ...Read more
