Edema in pregnancy: Following your last question, if your swelling is not acute in onset it may just be a normal process in pregnancy, there are a few things you can do to reduce it: avoid caffeine, limit salt intake, rest with your legs elevated, use support stockings, avoid being outdoors when it's hot, consume potassium containing foods like banana and orange. Good luck

How can I avoid swelling in my hands and feet during pregnancy?

How can I avoid swelling in my hands and feet during pregnancy?

Water, exercise: Swelling in pregnancy is pretty hard to avoid. The increased blood volume and lower blood pressure dilate the distal vessels and they become "leaky". Keeping your blood moving via exercise, drinking lots of water and periodically elevating your hands and feet will help.

Pregnant now?: If you aren't pregnant, just note if the swelling is gone in the morning but recurs by afternoon/evening, especially if you are on your feet all day. Also, check your blood pressure frequently. If still a problem after a few days, see your doctor. Same applies if pregnant, just make sure you get to your doctor soon, and check blood pressure twice daily. If >140/90, see your doctor immediately.

I had swelling in my hands and ankles and feet. I told my doctor about the swelling in my feet and he said that's part of pregnancy. But what about hand?

I had swelling in my hands and ankles and feet. I told my doctor about the swelling in my feet and he said that's part of pregnancy. But what about hand?

Could be Pregnancy: As your fetus develops, there will be pressure exerted on the big veins, which return blood to the heart (the vena cava). This is particularly true after lying on your back for a time. Although more commonly seen in the lower extremities, pressure within the vena cava can slow down return from the arms as well. Try sleeping on your side, with a pillow to help hold your position.

More than likely: More than likely swelling of feet and hands is a normal sign of the third trimester. However, if you develop a severe headache, severe pain in your right upper abdomen, or start having spots in your vision that are new, you should immediately be seen by your obgyn.

What could be causing pronounced swelling of face, hands, feet several weeks after stopping oral cortisone therapy. Renal, heart, sugar normal?

Start over: You left out the most important information. Why taking cortisone? Exactly which med at exactly which dose for how long? Was the cortisone [prednisone? ] used to suppress a condition which now emerges again without the cortisone? Do you notice the effects of prolonged, daily, high-dose steroid? Consult the Dr[s] who prescribed the cortisone.

My daughter has blotches all over her body and swelling on face feet and hand but feels ok??

Call your doctor now: You should call your doctor to get advice. What you are describing could be hives and the swelling is concerning. If this just started, it could progress to the point of difficulty swallowing or breathing and may be a medical emergency. She may need medications to treat this immediately. Don't wait to seek more definitive medical advice, as these are signs of allergic reaction.

What are conditions that causes swelling in feet hands face not associated with allergic reaction?

What are conditions that causes swelling in feet hands face not associated with allergic reaction?

Peripheral edema: Swelling of the extremities could be caused by many things. If you feel it is not an allergic reaction, an md consult is warranted. Perhaps your kidneys are not functioning properly, a common source of peripheral (and other) edema: swelling. Any changes in medications? The internet is really unsuited to diagnosis of such symptoms, don't fool around; see an md. Good luck!

What causes swelling of hands and feet, red flushed face that's hot to the touch and headache. Been this way for 8 hours now and im feeling very bad.

Very unusual: I would make sure to check your blood pressure first. It sounds as if you are having some vascular like symptoms that are difficult to attribute to any one source without additional information.

May be preeclampsia: Rapid weight gain, sudden swelling and headache may indicate developing preeclampsia, which can be dangerous to your own or baby's health. Check your blood pressure with a home cuff or at local pharmacy. If too number is >140 or bottom >90, let your doctor know ASAP.

Was severely hypothyroid. Still have swelling of eyes and face (rash) and numbness in feet and index finger. Will that go away?

Was severely hypothyroid. Still have swelling of eyes and face (rash) and numbness in feet and index finger. Will that go away?

Correct meds: Are you getting the correct meds? Check free T3 and reverse t3. Ft3 should be in upper range and rt3 in lower range. If your ratio is off, you may need Armour Thyroid or t3, and synthroid (thyroxine) would be the wrong med for you. Also check spot urine iodine to make sure you are not deficient.

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks.
