Knuckles got some red swelling, she used candle wax to decrease swelling and it helps. Is it ok? What are the causes? Should it be a concern?

Knuckles got some red swelling, she used candle wax to decrease swelling and it helps. Is it ok? What are the causes? Should it be a concern?

Causes of swelling?: There are many possible causes of swelling, pain and/or redness of the knuckles. These include overuse, sprains, arthritis (wear & tear and rheumatoid are the most common), infection and injury. Candle wax may provide temporary relief by warming the joints, but, due to the high risk of burns, in my mind, it's not OK. I punched a wall a couple days ago and there's a dent in my knuckle and it's swelling but it doesn't hurt unless I touch it. What's wrong with it?

Self control: Hi. I'm glad it was a wall and not a person, but still losing control of yourself and behaving irrationally can hurt someone, including you. Please consider your ability to control yourself, and seek counseling if indicated. As for the hand, an X-ray to make sure there's no fracture would not be a bad idea. Peace and good luck. ...Read more

Swelling outside wrist, where forearm meets wrist, between knuckles & pain - been this way over 1 yr, how long before swelling causes permanent damage?

Really cannot say: Without an actual examination, I cannot give specific medical advice on your particular health, and the swelling doesn't often cause as much damage as the CAUSE of the swelling. So, if someone fell and fractured the wrist, the fall and fracture would be the key thing. Or chronic wear and tear from jack-hammer use as another example. Rest, warmth, anti-inflammatories help if nothing else going on. ...Read more
