Swelling Knee Joints From Prednisone
Any medications without RX for RA??? My flares are back today, hands shoulders, knee are swelling and painful, can`t take prednisone. Have Latent TB.
RA: Today there are many treatment options for RA. Many of the drugs do lower the immune response and may predispose to infections such as TB. Nevertheless, rheumatologists are able to mitigate these side effects even in patients with latent TB. We sometimes recommend anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen for flares. I do recommend consulting a rheumatologist and would be happy to do a consult wit
Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more

I've got stills im 23, my joints r swollen I've been on prednisone high doses for months, I've had cort. Shots in knees, n ntfs don't work, what will help?
Other Rx: Even though tnfs did not help, there are other biologic agents which have shown good results. One drug is Kineret (anakinra) which works on il-1 (interleukin-1) instead of tumor necrosis factor (tnf). Be sure to let your rheumatologist know that you are still in pain and that you cannot taper off the steroids.

Try DMSO: DMSO (dimethylsulfoxide)--aka horse liniment--is available at a health food store or feed/veterinary supply. For systemic inflammatory conditions as you apparently have, I suggest one tsp per day orally. It tastes terrible. Mix with a small amount of water, and chase it with something else to kill the taste. Major adverse effect is that you will "off-gas" the DMSO in your breath and sweat.
My Dr gave me Cleocin (clindamycin phosphate) 300 mg & Rifampin 300 mg for Staph. I'm taking prednisone 10 mg for knee swelling. Can I take all these together.?
Yes: Yes you can but get off the prednisone. Have you seen a rheumatologist?

Arthritis: You have arthritis of multiple joints. Please see a doctor to diagnose and treat your condition.
How effective is mobic (meloxicam) in reducing swelling of the knee joint that causes pain in ostoarthritis?
Not much: While we often give "antiinflammatories" like candy to control pain and inflammation, the medications have only a very small affect on swelling. The majority of the benefits of the antiinflammatories are the pain-relieving aspects. They also have almost no affect on swelling inside the knee from osteoarthritis. Most of the fluid occurs from mechanical wear or bleeding within the joint.
I'm having swelling in left knee and a little pain. Maybe there was a knee joint's lock few days before. Any prescription please?
Possible: Injury to your ligaments. It is important to see an orthopedic doctor for evaluation. Otc analgesics may offer some relieve.
I recently came off Lexapro (escitalopram) (slowly). 3 weeks later I have joint stiffness, swelling and pain in both knees. Could Lexapro (escitalopram) cause this?
Probably not: But pretty much any side effect is possible w/ any drug. However, having it happen 3 wks after stopping doesn't raise a lot of suspicion.See 1 more doctor answer
Treated or cured.: The first step is determining the nature and cause of the swelling. A history and evaluation is the starting point. Seek the consultation from an orthopedic surgeon and you are on your way for resolution.See 1 more doctor answer

I have still's d. I've been on kineret (anakinra) for 5days, but pain n swelling is not going away, am I causing damage to my joints by walking w.Swollen knees?
Limit weight bearing: You didn't indicate your age or how long you have had this problem. In early childhood it is important to rest the affected joints as well as splinting with intermittent range of motion to prevent contractions (stiffness) and preserve motion. Sequelae in the adult years are treated with anti-inflammatory medications. An adult needs to limit weight bearing until the joint swelling improves.See 1 more doctor answer
I am experiencing knee pain, popping or snapping sound from knee joint and knee swelling. My knee also locks up and is almost unbearable to move.
Get Evaluation: When the knee joint starts to lock/pop etc, you should be evaluated for an abnormality in the knee itself such as a meniscal tear or other structural abnormality to the knee cap or knee joint it self. Radiographic studies most likely will be needed. Good luck
Could a hematoma on my leg below my knee cause pain, swelling and discomfort in my knee joint three years later?
Hematoma in the leg would not cause knee problems.
