Swelling Behind The Knee Causes
Baker's cyst: Localized swelling behind the knee is typically a baker's cyst or popliteal cyst. These cysts can arise if there is fluid within the knee joint. Consult with an orthopaedic surgeon to start.
Swelling is the enlargement of organs, skin, or other body parts. It is caused by a buildup of fluid in the tissues. Psoriatic arthritis - can this cause heavy feeling in legs, swelling feet and stabbing pain behind knees?
2 back surgeries in ~1 month. Wondering if increased swelling@L5-S1 from overdoing it could cause severe burning/cramping pain behind knee, in calf/ankle, & thigh? Have to lie down & hard to walk/sit.
This may be related: To anyone of several possible causes. Sometimes, even though the nerve that may have had some compression on it does not immediately respond to surgery or if you had surgery especially 2 so close that just manipulation of nerve may cause inflammation. Also one has to make sure you did not develop a blood clot in leg post op. You should discuss this with your surgeon. Scar tissue can form now.See 2 more doctor answers
Possible Baker's: Cyst: must be examined and if possible, drained.
Knee swelling: Knee swelling behind the knee can be associated with a baker or popliteal cyst; this is either a solitary (single) or multiloculated (multiple) fluid filled benign sac that can cause posterior knee pain and stiffness. Your physician should also ensure there is no underlying blood clot (dvt).

Many things: The quick answer is there are many things that can cause swelling below the knee. The nice thing is that if you go to an experienced physician, most musculoskeletal problems can be relatively easily discerned, which of course would dictate treatment. Thus without specifics of where you are experiencing swelling, we will not be able to give you an appropriate answer.
What could cause a random redness and warmth in knees, without any pain or swelling that comes with it?
Knee redness: Knee redness and warmth without pain, tenderness or swelling suggests skin reactivity? To friction or irritation from clothing. Cellulitis doesn't appear likely to be present due to transient nature of your symptoms and absence of spreading redness and simultaneous involvement of both knees. An allergic reaction also is unlikely due to lack of itching and ongoing eruption.
The etiologies may: Be the same or independent of each other. A thorough orthopedic exam seems like a good idea. The knee could be arthritic, you may have a meniscus tear etc, then due the injury the ankle is bearing more weight and causing the ankle to swell. Or, the ankle can have its own set of problems.See 1 more doctor answer
