Hello Iam taking remeron (mirtazapine) 15mg from 15 days for social anxiety, from 2 days I have a red swelling in the lower lip. Is it dangerous? Should I go emerg

Not sure: It's difficult to say it's the Remeron that's causing your lip to swell or be red. Since you don't know, it's always safe to stop the Remeron and maybe take a Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (if you are not allergic to this), until you have a chance to talk to your doctor. If you're throat swells and you cannot breath, this may be an anaphylactic rx and its a medical emergency. Call 911! ...Read more

Is it normal to lose weight after stopping mirtazapine?

Is it normal to lose weight after stopping mirtazapine?

Yes: It is certainly normal to gain weight on Mirtazapine, and many people hope to lose it again after they come off it. Mirtazapine strongly stimulates appetite in many patients, so it is often helpful in treating elderly depressed patients who are losing too much weight. Talk to your doctor if your weight loss is a problem. ...Read more

Lost 15 pounds after stopping remeron (mirtazapine) in march. Does that seem abnormal. I had gained 30 lbs while on it.

Lost 15 pounds after stopping remeron (mirtazapine) in march. Does that seem abnormal. I had gained 30 lbs while on it.

Also.: Not abnormal because Remeron (mirtazapine) increases appetite. When you went off of it your appetite just went back to your normal previous to when you were on it. Unless your depression is back, it could also be that now that your depression is back you don't feel like eating. If your depression is back then follow up with your physician as there are options for antidepressants that don't increase appetite. ...Read more

Does sleep eventually return after stopping mirtazapine for sleep? I read stopping mirtazapine causes insomnia.

Does sleep eventually return after stopping mirtazapine for sleep? I read stopping mirtazapine causes insomnia.

Insomnia.: That does not mean it is permanent. To get back on track use good sleep hygiene. Maintain a regular bedtime and awakening time schedule including weekends. Get up about the same time every day, regardless of what time you fell asleep. 2. Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine. Relaxing rituals prior to bedtime many include a warm bath or shower, aroma therapy, reading, or listening to sooth ...Read more

My insomnia improved, but never went away after stopping remeron (mirtazapine) at dr' s order, one yr ago. For the last wk I keep waking up at 3. What to do?

Why now?: If your insomnia has been better over the past year, I would wonder why you are waking up right now. Speak with your therapist about anything that may be on your mind or any changes in your life which may be creating stress. ...Read more

Can mirtazapine cause brain zaps when stopping cold turkey?

Yes: I like your term "brain zaps"! that's a good description of what happens with the discontinuation syndrome when stopping an ssri antidepressant. Technically speaking, Mirtazapine is not an ssri, but I suspect it could still cause aspects of the discontinuation syndrome with abrupt discontinuation. ...Read more

Am I likely to suffer any ill effects by stopping 30mg mirtazapine after 1 month and switching to 100mg trazodone plus 30mg buspirone for insomnia?

Am I likely to suffer any ill effects by stopping 30mg mirtazapine after 1 month and switching to 100mg trazodone plus 30mg buspirone for insomnia?

Maybe: "Ill" may be too strong a word. Doctors will probably disagree about this.
Drect switching from 30 dose of mirtazapine to a 100 mg dose of trazodone may be too sudden, and it may require more of a cross taper; without it, there may be various discontinuation affects that wouldn't help sleep. buspirone, even though it is an anti-anxiety medicine, is, for many, stimulating, and may keep you awake. ...Read more

A combo of cymbalta & Abilify (aripiprazole) made my husband have manic episodes. How is stopping Abilify (aripiprazole) & adding remeron going to calm the manic behavior?

Maybe it won't: Manic episodes in the light of antidepressants are either drug induced by the antidepressants themselves or stimulating a bipolar patient into mania - especially when no mood stabilizer on board first - current literature would discourage this practice if the patient is bipolar or at least consider the possibility a mood stabilizer is needed first. (this may help the depression remit alone?). ...Read more

CBT ever tried?: There are a plethora of medications available for the treatment of depression. But a question- Are you being treated by a psychiatrist for this or is it your family doctor managing all these changes and strategies? If the former then, fine, if the latter then, don't be shy to ask for another opinion. Next, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has raised some brows lately. Could it be a good change 4 U? ...Read more

After stopping taking remeron (mirtazapine) at my doctor' s advise I still have trouble sleeping, and for the last wk I wake up at 3 in the morning. Is it depression?

After stopping taking remeron (mirtazapine) at my doctor' s advise I still have trouble sleeping, and for the last wk I wake up at 3 in the morning. Is it depression?

Probably not: More likely is that mirtazapine was having a direct effect on your sleep independent of its antidepressant effect. Neuroleptics can have anticholinergic & antihistaminic side effects one of which can be drowsiness. Dry mouth in the morning would tend to support this supposition. This is all assuming you were taking it at bedtime. ...Read more

How long does it take for mirtazapine to get out of system first in morning. It makes me really sick and headache and then I can't stop wanting to eat?

How long does it take for mirtazapine to get out of system first in morning. It makes me really sick and headache and then I can't stop wanting to eat?

Half life: 20-40 hrs: This means that the drug is "active" (having the effects - both desired and undesired) for that long a time. So, if you take it every day, it is never "out of your system". Talk with the prescribing doctor if you want to try something different - never stop medications on your own, as some have to be tapered off and you need to be monitored. Good luck. ...Read more

No cold turkey!: Definitely get a doctor to help you taper off this drug. This is a reason it should only be used if nothing else can help. Do stop if you want to - but with a very slow taper. Here are links: http://en. Wikipedia. Org/wiki/mirtazapine and

Is mirtazapine sandoz safe? How I can stop from using this? Really ned your suggestion thanks

Taper off!: It's as safe as others - but each Pt. Has different sensitivities/side effects. To avoid potentially serious w/drawal - this (as several medications) needs to be reduced slowly. It's best to have medical guidance - but if impossible, step down dose by 15mg every 2 weeks till at 0mg. That's slow - but should be safe. If you can, research drugs BEFORE starting to know more about them. Best wishes! ...Read more

I have been on 15 mg of Remeron (mirtazapine) for about a month. I would like to stop taking it. I have read many horror stories about getting off of this drug.

Maybe I'm dense, but: So you want to get OFF Remeron (mirtazapine) because you've read horror stories about people getting OFF Remeron (mirtazapine)? I don't get it. Regardless, you're not doing the math. How many is "many"? Remeron (mirtazapine) is widely used. Would you decide never to travel to Italy because you read, say, 20 or so "horror stories" when millions of people visit Italy every year? They go for a reason. Remeron (mirtazapine) exists for a reason. ...Read more

I'm on remeron (mirtazapine) 15mg for social anxiety from 3 months. Can I stop it suddenly? Is there a drug to replace it?

No.: You haven't clarified why you wish to stop it. Before doing so, discuss with your prescriber your reasons, and consider whether a lack of effectiveness might be helped by dosage or timing adjustments, and whether a side effect might be easily managed. In any case, your dosage should not be suddenly stopped. ...Read more

Can I stop (by tapering) alprazolam. 5mg (on for 1 and half years) by adding mirtazapine?

Not directly: Mirtazepine is not a direct substitute for alprazolam, in terms of cross-tolerance. However, it can help basic anxiety if that's why your doctor prescribed the alprazolam. Alprazolam itself will still need to be tapered gradually, as you've indicated you want to do. Please work with your physician on a suitable tapering schedule. ...Read more
