Goes down with time: Ankle fracytures that are treated non operatively in a cast may have swelling following cast removal with activity for some time. It takes on average a total of 9 months for swelling and pain to either go away or if some swelling remains after 9 months it may persist. Therapy and activity will help reduce swelling with time. Ice is better: Ice is better at controlling swelling. If your leg is swelling in the cast, the cast may need to be removed and another one done that allows for the swelling. If the cast is too tight due to swelling, it will cut off your circulation and cause worse pain, possibly damage to the leg. Keep it elevated: Keep the affected part elevated whenever feasible. Try to keep the affected raised at night. It should subside with time. If three weeks later, it is not improving, it would be time to see your doctor.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually.
