My ankle is swelling again after a 9 month peroneal tendon surgery. It now swells everyday and is hurting, what else can alleviate my symptoms?
Normal: With peroneal tendon repair, there is most likely suture and/or a graft that was used. It takes a long time for it to absorb or incorporate to your tissues--scar tissue can also cause pain/swelling for a while. I would expect swelling for a year or more. If the pain is very severe, there is always the chance that you have a recurrence (unlikely). Rest and take antinflammatory medication. ...Read more

Regular shoes : After you fully recover from surgery, shoe gear modification is not really necessary. If there is not scarring on the back of the heel, then any shoe would be fine. However, you will need time to fully recover. Remember elite athletes who suffer from this injury often need a long time to recover. Please be patient and take care of yourself and listen to your doctors advice. ...Read more

4 weeks after achillies tendon surgery i feel great but once and a while i get pain pulsing in the tendon. Is that a sign of healing?
Post Achilles Surg: Depends on how long it lasts. If it is short lived, you are probably stretching out the scar tissue, and that is fine. If it lasts for several days, you are over using the weakened tendon and i would analyze your rehab program. Dr rich blake. ...Read more

I have had sharp pains followed with swelling in my achilles' tendon for about a year now but the pain and swelling comes and goes what could this be?
Achilles tendonitis: Achilles tenodnitis is sometimes difficult to treat. By raising your heels(both) with a firm heel lift you can take some of the stress off the tendon which makes it feel better and may reduce the swelling. When it become less painful stretching the achilles tendon will help keep the problem from returning. Anti-inflamatories and ice are good also. Get medical attention if it does not get better. ...Read more

I sprained my ankle 2 mos. ago and there is still slight pain a little swelling in the Achilles Tendon. Any guesses how much longer it'll take to heal?
Not healed...: As ankle sprains can come in varying degrees of severity, from very mild to very extreme, it is hard to tell just how long it will take you ankle to totally heel. More concerning, is that you are having some issues with your Achilles tendon. Your tendon may be showing signs of an early tendinitis, due to the change in tendon function. This change could be secondary to the unresolved ankle injury. ...Read more

Swelling in left ankle near achilles tendon. No pain or discoloration. Started after I did jumping jacks. Could it be sprained/strained?
Sprains and strains are invariably accompanied by pain. Painless swelling can have many causes . If it is exercise induced it could be a nearby joint capsule, tendon sheath enlarging. Some people also have some small defects in the fascia (tissue that forms compartments in the leg) and muscle can push through these areas during exercise.
Bottom line, if it is not painful I would not worry.
