Varies: There are many potential causes and a good exam can go a long way in determining the cause. Having a disc surgery would usually not cause swelling above the hip. Hip dysplasia means: A lot of things. Your should get an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in this. Often at a pediatric hospital the ortho surgeons are very familiar with hip dysplasias. Call and ask. And have your records inclduing your xrays and MRI and ct studies and arthrograms transferred to your new doctor. You new doctor if he or she does not take care of these commonly may not understand how to help. ...Read more

Location -location: Where on the left hip is important. The outside lateral pelvis is moro ofter due to bursitis. This is called trochanteric bursitis. Walking stresses this irritated area and hence you get pain. You evaluation would include finding pain over the outside where the bursa is when you press on the area. Probably NO, but: See your doctor as you'll need xrays to be diagnosed properly and treated. You most likely have gone on to develop full blown arthritis, which will need to be treated.

Correct diagnosis: First, are you sure that this is the correct diagnosis? I find a torn hip flexor to be a relatively uncommon injury, although certainly possible. If after 10 months, it is still painful then an MRI or follow-up MRI could be helpful to assess for healing and rule out other causes of pain.
