Sweet Oil Medication
Coconut oil: When used with moderation and with the same amounts found in food, it is unlikely to have side effects or interactions. However, it is high in saturated fat and can increase cholesterol levels and so if you are taking anti-cholesterol medications you may want to discuss it with your physician ...Read more
BAD oil: Hi. Coconut and palm oils are very unhealthy for you. They're both very highly saturated, and present a horrific risk for atherosclerosis and heart attack. And COCONUT OIL IS NOT A MEDICATION, except for causing death, so you can't take it as such (a medication). Read ingredient labels; if you see palm or coconut oil, STAY AWAY if you like your heart muscle getting blood and oxygen! ...Read more
I have a very oily skin. By early afternoon my skin looks like a mirror! Oil control lotions seems fairly ineffective. Is medication my only solution?
Oily skin: Sometimes when we have oily skin, our first inclination is to wash it with cleanser more frequently. But that often serves to dry out the skin more frequently, which causes your skin to become more oily. It becomes a hard to break cycle. If you think you're getting acne from the excessive oil, it might be good to at least talk with your doc about options - it doesn't mean you have to use them. ...Read more
Is there any medication, vitamins or hair oil for premature grey hair? What cause premature grey hair?
No known solution: Pigmentation in follicles require proper 1)production of melanin (the pigment) and 2)the proper transfer of melanin into the follicles. If either of these steps is amiss, we will grey. In a healthy individual, when we start to grey is genetically programed. In an extreme situation such as starvation or malnutrition, we will experience hair loss, reduce melanin production, and thus greying. ...Read more
My cholesterol was over 300, but not on medication. Was taking fish oil capsules, but read this could elevate levels. Do I need meds?
High cholesterol: Hi. Total cholesterol is a fairly uninformative number, and treatment decisions should not be based on it. It helps to know your overall profile. If "high" is due to HDL, no problem. If "high" is due to LDL, that is a risk for atherosclerosis. Are your triglycerides high or normal? Hi triglycerides correlate with low HDL, which is another risk for atherosclerosis. So without more information... ...Read more
Have you heard anything positive about the oil cleansing method for acne? I am 25 and have tried almost every acne medication and nothing works!
Do fish oil tablets help regulate good and bad cholesterol? At what level of bad cholesterol should one start medications instead of relying on life style changes?
Complex issue: Fish oil has multiple health effects beyond cholesterol. Severe hypertriglyceridemia is treated with 4 fish oil tablets a day, can lower triglyceride and raise HDL somewhat. Plant sources of omega-3 need to be converted to the active form which is found in fish oil. In general the worse ones diet is, the more important fish oil is. 1 to 2 tablets of fish oil is reasonable for general health ...Read more
Very,? blood thinners:
Hemp seed oil has the ideal mix of essential omega 3 & 6 fatty acids as well as other beneficial compounds & is arguably the healthiest oil (though not good for cooking).
There are no known interactions but because it is a natural blood thinner caution should be used if on blood thinners.

Can using a lotion that absorbs coconut oil into my skin cause an interaction with my Propecia (finasteride) medication?
If the oil production returns to normal after accutane is stopped, doesn't that mean acne will return? So how come accutane is considered the only medication to cure acne permanently? Thanks
Its not: Isoretinoin targets systems that involve vitamin A in their control processes, and that's probably how it shrinks sebaceous glands. But Accutane, the orally ingested form, also gets to ALL systems; luckily it doesn't have a major effect on the 'big A system'. vision. When you stop Accutane, the sebaceous system can recover, and you could get acne again. Usually, your body has moved on. ...Read more
Should I be taking medication for high cholesterol (243) or try exercise and fish oil for 6 months first?
Depends on profile: If your HDL is very high within that 243, you may be able to get away with diet, exercise and nutritional supplementation for a while. If your HDL is low, then you'd probably need medication as your LDL and triglyerides are probably too high. We need the profile to be sure. ...Read more
I have been using the acne medication, neutrogena oil-free acne wash for maybe 3 or stop using the acne wash?
Can you clarify?: This is very weak stuff and if you're still having acne, move to something stronger. Salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and/or retinoic acid are your best friends. If they don't clear you in a few weeks, or if you have severe acne or it's on your trunk, your physician can add something stronger that will work. Best wishes. ...Read more

Does using grapefruit oil, extract, mist, or spray topically on the body or inhaling it interact with ssri medication?
Probably transiently: The issue with grapefruit and other medications is that it competes for the same activating enzymes as the medication. Grapefruit inhibits the activating enzyme p450 thereby increasing the effect of any medications using that same enzyme such as certain types of ssri's. This effect is transient and limited to the amount of grapefruit taken in. In the case of topical and inhaled it's probably smal ...Read more

75 yr Female once we check interactions with all medication I take What's a good amount of COQ10 or Ubiquinol Oil supplements to take after stroke?
My acne seems to be getting worse when I use very strong medication for the pimples. I tried using tea tree oil but it just made it worse. I need help.
OK: Have a talk with your doc about what acne is. By putting an oil on yr skin you are just blocking the oil glands on yr skin so I would expect it to indeed get worse. There are OTC preps with benzoyl peroxide (5% or 10%) which can help a lot. There are other meds by scrip. Good web sites are www. Mayoclinic. Com and www. Johnshopkins. Com ...Read more

I am hypothyroid and taking medication from past 15 years. Thyroxine sodium 62mcg. Can I use ground flaxseed? If not can I use flaxseed oil? Spirulina?
With thyroxine: I'm not sure if you're wanting to take the listed supplements instead of thyroxine (no) or with your thyroxine (yes). Essentially, if your thyroid levels are in the good range, you can take anything that someone with a normally working thyroid can take. Because different docs have different opinions, it's always best to check with your own doc, and make sure s/he knows exactly what you're taking. ...Read more
Planning to take fish oil supplements along with thiazide and Lipitor (atorvastatin) medication. Also taking multi vitamin gummies. Is this okay?
Can I take vitamin a pills with a daily mulitvitamin if I also take fish oil capsules? Would they be a good alternative for acne medication?
Poor alternative: You'll need to take enough vitamin A to make yourself sick (and I mean SICK) before you can expect it to clear your acne. Get a topical retinoic acid derivative for your skin rather than the overkill approach that systemic administration offers. If this doesn't clear you, get with your personal physician for help. Fish oil's your business -- the recent studies are disappointing. ...Read more
