See an ENT doctor: Ear pain and fullness can be due to tmd (temporo-mandibular disorder). Retraction of drum may indicate eustachian tube obstruction, but that requires a specialist's observation. Crackling on swallowing is normal. The presence of normal hearing strongly indicates no pathology in the external or middle ear. ...Read more

Ear vs TMJ: ear clicking that occurs primarily with swallowing is the opening of the eustachian tube. "Ear" clicking that occurs with chewing is usually jaw joint - TMJ. Try nose spray: You may want to try a nasal decongestant like afrin or neosynephrine for 3 days as directed. There is a tube between the inside of the ear and the back of the nose which gets swollen when you are sick with a cold, etc. The sprays can help sometimes decrease swelling and open up the ears and help you pop them gently.
