After cataract surgery. Creases where observed in capsule. Was this from the surgery?

After cataract surgery. Creases where observed in capsule. Was this from the surgery?

Yes: But this is unavoidable. Using a jelly filled donut as an example, the cataract would be the jelly and the capsule is the rest of the donut. During cataract surgery, the jelly of the donut is removed and a thin lens is placed in the donut. How thick the donut was originally will dictate how much wrinkling occurs, as the donut shrink-wraps around the new lens.

Will I see 20/20 after cataract surgery?

Will I see 20/20 after cataract surgery?

Probably: If you have no other eye diseases and surgery goes well, most people will attain 20/20 visual acuity with the use of a glasses prescription. Depending on your eye, it is possible that you may have 20/20 distance vision without any glasses.

When can I go swimming after cataract surgery?

When can I go swimming after cataract surgery?

Depends: Depending on pre-surgery risks & other surgical factors (was laser cataract surgery performed, was there any complication, excess iris manipulation or energy needed), most pts can go back to school/computer/work in 2-5days: as long as using drops, no bending, lifting, heavy straining performed. Swimming with goggles likely ok at 7-10 days; no goggles @30d: check with eyeMD; Eyedoc2020@blogspot. Com

Wrong lens implanted after cataract surgery, is it possible to fix this?

Wrong lens implanted after cataract surgery, is it possible to fix this?

Wrong lens: Yes, but it depends how wrong it is... It is a difficult surgery, and more things can go wrong. If you just need a little glasses to correct the differenece that might be all you need. Alternatively, if your surgeon has little experience with this, you may want to seek out another surgeon that has more experience removing or exchanging lenses.

Why does someone need those thick glasses after cataract surgery and why?

Why does someone need those thick glasses after cataract surgery and why?

Aphakia: Typically it is due to a condition called aphakia, where the natural focusing lens removed during the surgery is not replaced with a lens implant. This is not common. Modern uncomplicated cataract surgery does not require thick glasses afterwards, and in many cases actually reduces or eliminates the need for glasses.

What is the probability of seeing visual disturbances after cataract surgery?

What is the probability of seeing visual disturbances after cataract surgery?

Very low: Depends on what you mean by visual disturbances! I rarely get complaints of "visual disturbances" after cataract surgery. Most patients are very happy with their new and improved vision. There can be more glare and light sensitivity compared to the natural lens in a small set of people, but this is usually insignificant.

What causes double vision after cataract surgery?

What causes double vision after cataract surgery?

Many possible causes: If the double vision is in just the operated eye, then the cornea or implant has a problem. If the double vision occurs only with both eyes open, then there is a misalignment issue. Your ophthalmologist should be able to sort this out.

How soon after cataract surgery can one resume normal (strenuous) sexual activity?

Talk to eye doctor: I don't think one needs to refrain from sexual activity for more than a few days but your eye doctor can give you a better answer. However if you plan to have sex under water, then the answer would be different. :).

Is it normal to have a very constricted pupil after cataract surgery? What could be the reasons?

Is it normal to have a very constricted pupil after cataract surgery? What could be the reasons?

Not a problem: While the pupil is dilated during surgery, it rapidly goes back to undilated. Because the natural lens is much larger than the artificial lens, it pushes the iris forward giving some increase to pupillary size - which is what you are used to. After surgery then, the iris falls farther back and is smaller in many cases. Your surgeon can advise you on routine follow up for this.

Why do doctors recommend not exercising for a month after cataract surgery? Is it old school advice?

SAFETY: Most cataract wounds are self sealing and do not require a suture. Placing undue stress to this wound before healing may cause a wound leak. Every cataract surgeon has had to take a patient back to the or at some time to fix, or try to fix an eye in a patient who did not heed the restrictions. Don't risk a lifetime of good vision by doing too much in the post operative period.
