Surgery Options For Draining Fluid In Abdomen
Surgery years ago has an incision draining lymph fluid like a faucet dripping. Leg fills with fluid and incision blisters and pop for the fluid to drain. Starting to be painful blisters. Who do I see?
Paracentesis: Paracentesis is a procedure whereby a needle is placed into the abdominal cavity to remove fluid. This can be done to diagnose a condition, or relieve discomfort from the abdomen being distended. However, it is important to find out the underlying cause of the accumulated fluid and treat it primarily if possible because the fluid will like reaccumulate if the condition persists. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How does fluid and abscess accumulate in the pelvis, pelvic area.... is there lots of reasons for this ? Male patient
Many reasons: There are several ways yes. Diverticulitis (little sac out-pouchings in the colon) can rupture and lead to this. Irritation anywhere in the pelvis can lead to fluid and or abscess. The list does go on. These things can resolve spontaneously...but do sometimes require CT guided or US guided drainage. ...Read more
Is it common for CSF fluid to be drained in alternative passageways for acquired hydro after tumor removal? Chance of shunt independence in such case?
Yes: A shunt is necessary if there is too much cerebral fluid in the brain. The surgeon that put it in will check it periodically to see if it is functioning properly and if drainage needs to be increased or decreased. If there are no symptoms, the shunt is usually left alone. I know patients that have had them since childhood without any problems. Good luck. ...Read more

Is it normal for the scrotum to remain stiff/ irritated/swollen after natural draining of fluid post inguinal hernia repair surgery?
Here are some ...: Inguinal herniorrhaphy & fluid drainage naturally induce substantial tissue injury which heals through a process of body reaction with intense inflammation resulting in tissue induration & swelling, which may take a widely variable duration - weeks to months - to resolve. Generally speaking, it's okay as along as the affected area is slowly but surely getting less tender, painful and indurated... ...Read more
Will the green laser prostate treatment eliminate bladder fluid retention? I'm due in surgery next tuesday.
Diverticulitis, drain tube placed on pelvic, gets 5ml/24h gray foul smelling fluid. Is safe to remove drain tube? What is this fluid?
Do not remove: You likely had an infection due to a diverticulum rupturing, causing localized peritonitis and then abscess. Treatment for this is drainage and antibiotics until the abscess and inflammation resolves. Taking the tube out too early can cause reaccumulation of pus. See a colorectal surgeon following resolution to see whether you should have follow up surgery to removed the diseased segment. ...Read more
Feels like very little fluid in abdomen, most in groin, will surgery be impaired, what should I ask or tell the surgeon before surgery is surgery ok?
Surgery: Little fluid is better than much fluid in case of ascitis. I don't think the risk of the surgery is higher in case of small fluid volume in the abdominal cavity vs. Large fluid volume. In fact, it's more risky to have it done when the belly is tight and big. ...Read more

Why would a surgeon break an ankle and put pins/plates in it? What are methods of surgical pain relief for ankle when key hole surgery has failed?
Ankle surgery: If the ankle joint was injured previously, or if there is severe arthritis in the joint which cause a pseudo fusion, the surgeon may need to "break" the ankle joint to either completely fuse the joint or prepare the joint for an ankle replacement. Pain relief can be obtained with opioid pain medications, rest, ice, and elevation. ...Read more

Old fluid collection: Drains placed in the or are usually placed through safe pathways from inside to the outside of the abdomen - rarely this may not be so.
