Suppressed Immune System And Super Flu Vaccine
My mother has a weak immune system. About the flu vaccine, it's dangerous for her, because of the side effects?
Also known as influenza vaccines, flu shots are given out once a year to protect against the flu. The flu shot stimulates the immune system to build antibodies to three or four strains of flu viruses in the hopes that it will offer protection from the current strains present in the community. Each year the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) monitors the strains of Influenza globally and incorporates the appropriate antigens in the new vaccine. For best protection the vaccine ...Read more
Are there multiple cold viruses? Can a flu shot while your sick make your immune system weaker, and more prone to viruses? Will vitamin b help?
Many cold viruses: The most common "cold" viruses are rhinovirus, rsv, hmv, coronovirus, parainfluenza, influenza, and adenovirus. Each has many strains that can cause symptoms. Influenza is the only "cold" virus we have a vaccine for currently. It does not make your immune system weaker although there are some times you should delay the vaccine (i.e. During an asthma attack). No evidence for vitb helping colds. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can flu shot weaken your immune system to where you can catch sinus infections ? My wife thinks that she want me to try just one year to go without
Urban myth!: Influenza immunization has no effect on the immue system, except to help make the recipient immune to flu. It doesn't cause a minor case of influenza, fever, or anything like that; and it doesn't raise the chance of sinusitis or anything else. It is irresponsible to not get vaccinated against flu on account of such things. OTOH, we're almost at the end of flu season, so it may be too late to help. ...Read more
Aside from hand-washing, getting flu shot, etc., what are some good ways to boost the immune system during cold/flu season & avoid getting sick?
Great question!: Many people have opinions about "how" to boost the immune system. Practically speaking, there is no correct answer to this. The immune system is very complex and I am not aware of anything in particular that will globally "boost" this. A good diet, regular exercise, and an appropriate amount of sleep are good things along with the things that you are doing. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How can a flu shot be effective if it bypasses your iga immune system? Isn't contracting and fighting always better than introducing. Never Had a flu
Bypass IgA?: The flu vaccine induces cellular production of IgA, IgG, & IgM. Moreover, increasing herd immunity through vaccines protects those who are unable to be vaccinated. You can check out this article from the academic journal, Immune for more info. Hope that helps! Vaccine. 2012 Aug 31;30(40):5893-900. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2012.04.109. If one get mild fever aches after flu shot, is it because of bad immune system or on the contrary? Is there greater risk of symptom at next year shot?
Can you tell me if you've already had h1n1 and your immune system has naturally built up resistance to it, do you need a flu shot for it?
Yes: Each flu shot is good for one flu season. H1N1 is covered with the current flu shot. 2014 – 2015 Flu Shots: Trivalent works against 3 influenza viruses – Influenza A viruses (H3N2 & H1N1) & 1 influenza B virus. Quadrivalent & the live attenuated Influenza vaccine work against these & a second influenza B virus. ...Read more

What to do if I have the flu. My son who is 1 received the flu vaccine earlier this year. Is he immune to catching it?
Our immune systems are complex, with defense functions against external threats and internal functions that define us as unique individuals. Therapeutic medications to control diseases of overactivity of the immune system (like lupus) or to prevent rejection of transplanted organs we want to trick the body into considering "self" have consequences caused by unwanted ...Read more
