My mother has a weak immune system. About the flu vaccine, it's dangerous for her, because of the side effects?
Flu shot safe: The influenza vaccine by injection is safe. It is a killed vaccine and not able to cause the flu. Side effects are usually mild and short lived. In immune deficient patients, usually avoid "live" vaccine such as nasal flu vaccine. ...Read more

Are there multiple cold viruses? Can a flu shot while your sick make your immune system weaker, and more prone to viruses? Will vitamin b help?
Many cold viruses: The most common "cold" viruses are rhinovirus, rsv, hmv, coronovirus, parainfluenza, influenza, and adenovirus. Each has many strains that can cause symptoms. Influenza is the only "cold" virus we have a vaccine for currently. It does not make your immune system weaker although there are some times you should delay the vaccine (i.e. During an asthma attack). No evidence for vitb helping colds. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

If one get mild fever aches after flu shot, is it because of bad immune system or on the contrary? Is there greater risk of symptom at next year shot?
Can flu shot weaken your immune system to where you can catch sinus infections ? My wife thinks that she want me to try just one year to go without
Urban myth!: Influenza immunization has no effect on the immue system, except to help make the recipient immune to flu. It doesn't cause a minor case of influenza, fever, or anything like that; and it doesn't raise the chance of sinusitis or anything else. It is irresponsible to not get vaccinated against flu on account of such things. OTOH, we're almost at the end of flu season, so it may be too late to help. ...Read more
Aside from hand-washing, getting flu shot, etc., what are some good ways to boost the immune system during cold/flu season & avoid getting sick?
Great question!: Many people have opinions about "how" to boost the immune system. Practically speaking, there is no correct answer to this. The immune system is very complex and I am not aware of anything in particular that will globally "boost" this. A good diet, regular exercise, and an appropriate amount of sleep are good things along with the things that you are doing. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
