Depends of type: Herpes encephalitis can be modified by the use of acyclovir. Other viral infections can be modified by immunization and anti-viral agents. Most cases can recover on their own without the need for specific treatment. Good supportive care and treatment of possible bacterial infection is needed as well as prevention of complications. Combination drugs: Chemo given as neoadjuvant to shrink tumor in preparation for surgery or as adjuvant after having surgery and or radiation. They are given in combination such as CMF (Cytoxan, MTX, 5FU) or as FOLFOX in post surgery of colon cancer, or FOLFIERI in an attempt to control metastastic pancreatic cancer or now as Gemcitabine + Abranxane in metastsatic or post surgical management of pancreatic CA. ...Read more

Multiple answers.: Empiric therapy is treatment given for a condition that generally works, but is not necessarily specific. I.E. antibiotics before cultures are back. Supportive therapy is given to improve condition just like oxygen for shortness of breath, but not necessarily medications. On n off (when on alinia or flagyl) bloody diarrhea for 3 mons. Started when I was taking augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for tooth infection. Tested for c.diff and other things. All negative. What next? Lost 20 pou.Scared
