What physical therapy should I do for a torn chest muscle?

What physical therapy should I do for a torn chest muscle?

Physical therapy: Ice, rest are the first measures to take in case of a pulled (torn) chest muscle. Taking an antiinflammatory medication, such as ibuprofen/naproxen may be helpful to alleviated pain/discomfort. Physical therapy should be delayed until it is tolerable. The physical therapist will decide on the techniques to be used. It could be heat/cold applications, ultrasound stimulation, tens unit etc.

Can a pulled chest muscle be mistaken for palpitations?

Pull vs Palpitation: Palpitations generally refer to the heart muscle and describe periodic rapid accelerations of heart rate. Palpitations normally occur with vigorous activity. Some sensitive people can develop palpitations due to caffeine or thyroid disorders at rest. Most commonly a pulled chest muscle is localized to the chest wall and hurts when pressed or with deep breathing which makes it unmistakable.

What is the best workouts to gain arm and chest muscle?

What is the best workouts to gain arm and chest muscle?

Muscle Hypertrophy: First you can build muscle at any age! Dr. Walter frontera has demonstrated this even in 80-90 year olds. If you want bulk like a body builder you must do multiple sets of 8-12 reps of a medium weight with little rest to hypertrophy type 1 fibers (endurance). If you want power you should do high weights with low reps and 2-3 minutes rest. Strength is somewhere in between. Variable is essential.

What can help a pulled chest muscle?

Rest &. ..: If you are sure it's a pulled chest muscle, over the counter anti-inflammatory medications (like ibuprofen), warmth, and stretching can help. Massage is helpful as well. If it doesn't get better in 3 days with this you should call your doctor. Also, if the pain is associated with fever, shortness of breath, weakness, or palpitations, you should seek care sooner.

Is it normal if my chest muscle has been twiching for over a week?

Is it normal if my chest muscle has been twiching for over a week?

Maybe, maybe not...: Some irritation to a muscle, nerve, or part of a nerve that goes to certain muscle fibers may cause those fibers to twitch. Such twitching is usually for a few hours or a day, and only once in a while. In those cases, doctors and patients usually don't spend time looking for a cause. If symptoms have been there a whole week, or are recurrent, a primary doctor or a neurologist can evaluate.

While working out at baseball training today, I think I might have pulled a chest muscle when pitching. How would I know?

While working out at baseball training today, I think I might have pulled a chest muscle when pitching. How would I know?

Tenderness in area: Pulled muscles are very common, typically easily diagnosed on physical examination. There is usually tenderness over the muscle involved, discomfort with stretching of the muscle, possible weakness as well on strength testing or activities. Occasonally it can be associated with a 'pop' during the activity. Swelling, bruising, and sometimes a deformity can be seem on inspection as well.

Poland sequence?: There is a known anomaly called the Poland sequence that occurs in ~1/20000 births where the pectoralis (chest muscle) does not develop. It affects males more than females & about 10% have some knit fingers on the same side. The cause is unknown but some speculate poor development of the subclavian artery that supports the muscle is the issue. I would consult with a medical geneticist for confirmat

Make sure BP is fine: I don't foresee any longterm consequences necessarily, but if it persists, your doctor can give you a muscle relaxant to help break the tension spasm cycle.

Does a pulled chest muscle hurt when you inhale?

Does a pulled chest muscle hurt when you inhale?

Yes: A pulled muscle may hurt with breathing, but many other conditions also hurt with deep breathing such as pneumonia, blood clots, or pneumothorax. This is a scenario where the history really matters. If you were moving furniture or lifting heavy objects, this may very well be a pulled muscle. But if not, consider other possible diagnoses.
