Superficial Scrapped Wound
Basic Care: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected. ...Read more

Skin biopsy chin wound 2/6, while washing accidentally removed scab (very thin/moist hadn't noticed it) didnt tear/bleed. put bandaid + aquaphore. now its slightly indented & red. Effect on healin?
Blisters on heels ripped off, skin raw. Been using antibiotic ointment but "new" skin is yellow & has pus. Red around edges. Infected? Urgent care?
As long as it's open: & not anymore than an uncovered blister, it will heal. Keep it clean, wash (scrub) it 3-4 times a day. That will get the crud off the top, may not feel good but unroofing it is good. Then if available to you cover with Silvadine cream, if not an antibiotic ointment. You want to keep it clean & not let it crust over. Keeping it covered with a band aid will keep it moist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Feels like there is something sharp scraping my tongue that's launched inside my tonsils. What is this ?
Possibly a sore..but: Try to determine with your tongue (or finger) if it feels like there is a foreign thing there - can your tongue feel "edges" or "shape"? If so, you might have a small fish or chicken bone stuck in your tonsil!!!!! That is REALLY rare! With a history of canker sores, they can "feel sharp" when your tongue rubs against it. Look in a mirror -- if see something, OR if not better, see doctor! ...Read more

Probably slows it.: I know of no evidence (or even old wive's tale) of sugar speeding up healing. In fact, excess sugar has been shown to SLOW DOWN healing of cuts & wounds (like in diabetics) b/c blood glucose at ~150 mg/dL starts to impair white blood cell mobility. Table sugar is sucrose, but the body breaks it down to glucose & fructose quickly. So, if anything, sugar on minor cuts & scrapes makes healing slower. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
