Super B Complex Vitamins Safe During Pregnancy
I'm taking a pre Natal vitamin right now. Can I also take a b complex on top of it during pregnancy? Is it safe to take that much?
Prenatal vitamins: When it comes to medications, supplements, nutrition, exercise, etc, it's always best to check w/your obstetrician and/or family doc. Prenatal vitamins have more folate (folic acid) than regular multivitamins to minimize risk of spinal tube defects in developing fetuses. For best results, start PNV while trying to get pregnant, not just after, since spinal tube develops early b4 1st missed period. ...Read more
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. 'im in a 14week pregnancy, im taking a vitamin for the bby with folic acid, ferrous sulfate and vitamin b complex for a month, is it ok?
Probably not: I would stay away from "ultra-potency" vitamins in pregnancy. One has to be careful about vitamins that are potentially harmful to your fetus, such as vitamin a. Your ob/gyn should be able to review theses doses with you and you should take the bottle in to them so they can review these doses. ...Read more
Psyllium husk powder (vitamin shoppe) safe during pregnancy? How many times in a day may I use this product? How many times a week?
Yes, definitely: Psyllium powder is definitely safe in pregnancy. It is not absorbed by your body, but rather pulls water into the intestine. You could use the product every day, even twice a day. Another great medication that functions in he exact same way (but tastes better) is miralax, (polyethylene glycol) or generic equivalent. Same idea, not absorbed, can take 1-2 times a day. Remember to drink lots of water too! ...Read more
Is it safe to take trader joe's prenatal vitamins (which include herbs) both before and during pregnancy?
No: Nutrition is so important during pregnancy & extra doses of some vitamins are helpful (such as folic acid, b9) but certain vitamins can be toxic in too high doses. “fat soluble” vitamins, once absorbed by the body, cannot be easily discharged if their levels are too high. Extremely high levels of vitamin a may cause birth defects. There is a rare link with extreme vitamin e & infant heart defects. ...Read more
Prenatal vitamins seem to have 30-100 iu of vitamin E but I thought vitamin E wasn't safe in excess mounts during pregnancy. How much is too much?
Yes: Building healthy bones & teeth. While your bones provide an abundant supply of calcium for your developing baby, you can insure you're not depleted of this vital mineral by taking 1500mg of calcium and 400 units of vitamin d daily while pregnant and breastfeeding too. While many prenatal vitamins contain the later, they often don't have enough calcium. Dairy products or a supplement will suffice. ...Read more
