When putting on sun tan lotion, am I supposed to apply sunscreen on first and then sun tan lotion? Or do I just use suntan lotion since it has SPF 5?
SPF15 Broad-spectrum: Apply 1 oz of sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 (the higher the SPF, the more UVB protection) liberally 15-30 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every 2 hours & after swimming, sweating, or drying off with a towel. Use a sunscreen that says “broad-spectrum” on the label - that means it will screen out both UVB and UVA rays. Look for the new UVA rating system: 4 stars = highest UVA protection. ...Read more
I am short of breathe if I lie down to sleep or even to suntan. I do not smoke. What could cause this? Tks

How can I prevent a suntan from peeling? I like how it looks and don't want it to go away. What measures can I take besides for moisturizing?
Can't stop nature: If one's skin got fried by the sun, new skin cells will form to replace the sunburned skin all at one time (because greater skin damage was done all at one time). If one's skin was not fried but just gradually tanned, new skin cells will replace the tanned skin at the normal rate that skin cells replace themselves. Otherwise, if one were to keep old skin, she would look 100 years-old very rapidly. ...Read more

I have natural medium brown skin and used a skin whitening cream with hydroquinone to whiten my skin a year ago. Is it permanent? Can I suntan my skin
Had laser hair removal on legs. Have white marks because skin was a burned. Can I continue the sessions? Can I get suntan?
Yes/No: No such thing as hair removal. It is "hair reduction." if you were burned, you might want to have them turn the power down on the laser. You should never get a suntan whether or not you have scars and therefore should always use sun-block protection. Sun block is even more important when there are scars. ...Read more

Coconut oil: When used with moderation and with the same amounts found in food, it is unlikely to have side effects or interactions. However, it is high in saturated fat and can increase cholesterol levels and so if you are taking anti-cholesterol medications you may want to discuss it with your physician ...Read more
BAD oil: Hi. Coconut and palm oils are very unhealthy for you. They're both very highly saturated, and present a horrific risk for atherosclerosis and heart attack. And COCONUT OIL IS NOT A MEDICATION, except for causing death, so you can't take it as such (a medication). Read ingredient labels; if you see palm or coconut oil, STAY AWAY if you like your heart muscle getting blood and oxygen! ...Read more
I have a very oily skin. By early afternoon my skin looks like a mirror! Oil control lotions seems fairly ineffective. Is medication my only solution?
Oily skin: Sometimes when we have oily skin, our first inclination is to wash it with cleanser more frequently. But that often serves to dry out the skin more frequently, which causes your skin to become more oily. It becomes a hard to break cycle. If you think you're getting acne from the excessive oil, it might be good to at least talk with your doc about options - it doesn't mean you have to use them. ...Read more
My cholesterol was over 300, but not on medication. Was taking fish oil capsules, but read this could elevate levels. Do I need meds?
High cholesterol: Hi. Total cholesterol is a fairly uninformative number, and treatment decisions should not be based on it. It helps to know your overall profile. If "high" is due to HDL, no problem. If "high" is due to LDL, that is a risk for atherosclerosis. Are your triglycerides high or normal? Hi triglycerides correlate with low HDL, which is another risk for atherosclerosis. So without more information... ...Read more

Do fish oil tablets help regulate good and bad cholesterol? At what level of bad cholesterol should one start medications instead of relying on life style changes?
Complex issue: Fish oil has multiple health effects beyond cholesterol. Severe hypertriglyceridemia is treated with 4 fish oil tablets a day, can lower triglyceride and raise HDL somewhat. Plant sources of omega-3 need to be converted to the active form which is found in fish oil. In general the worse ones diet is, the more important fish oil is. 1 to 2 tablets of fish oil is reasonable for general health ...Read more

Can using a lotion that absorbs coconut oil into my skin cause an interaction with my Propecia (finasteride) medication?
If the oil production returns to normal after accutane is stopped, doesn't that mean acne will return? So how come accutane is considered the only medication to cure acne permanently? Thanks
Its not: Isoretinoin targets systems that involve vitamin A in their control processes, and that's probably how it shrinks sebaceous glands. But Accutane, the orally ingested form, also gets to ALL systems; luckily it doesn't have a major effect on the 'big A system'. vision. When you stop Accutane, the sebaceous system can recover, and you could get acne again. Usually, your body has moved on. ...Read more
Should I be taking medication for high cholesterol (243) or try exercise and fish oil for 6 months first?
Depends on profile: If your HDL is very high within that 243, you may be able to get away with diet, exercise and nutritional supplementation for a while. If your HDL is low, then you'd probably need medication as your LDL and triglyerides are probably too high. We need the profile to be sure. ...Read more
I have been using the acne medication, neutrogena oil-free acne wash for maybe 3 or stop using the acne wash?
Can you clarify?: This is very weak stuff and if you're still having acne, move to something stronger. Salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and/or retinoic acid are your best friends. If they don't clear you in a few weeks, or if you have severe acne or it's on your trunk, your physician can add something stronger that will work. Best wishes. ...Read more
