How long and how often should get a sun exposure to get Vitamin D? I work in an office & don't get much sun. Is it true I should have calcium together?
This depends on your latitude, time of year, your skin pigmentation & how much skin is exposed. It D helps us absorb calcium but many get enough calcium via diet. It's more important to take Vit K. If you don't get enough sun take 5-8000 iu of Vit D/day.

Supplements are best: Though sun exposure will potentially help the body create vitamin D, the newest research suggests that sunlight is inadequate for vitamin D synthesis in most regions of the world and for people of darker complexions this is an even greater problem. With modern vitamin D supplements, there really is no reason to rely on sunlight alone to get vitamin D levels up. Skin cancer risk is another reason. ...Read more
What is the best time for sun-exposure in patient with vitamin D deficiency? In iraq and Eastern populations?
The sun has to be fairly high in the sky, at least 50 degrees above the horizon, for UVB rays that are needed to produce Vit D to reach the ground, so mid-day is the best time.
For a detailed discussion see http://tinyurl. Com/7kv5pgm
From about 10/10 to early March the sun is never that high so the only way to get adequate D is to supplement- I advise 5000 iu/day.

Can my body still make vitamin d if I take a shower immediately after sun exposure? My dr. Insists that I need to wait a few hours before I shower.
Do you recommended taking some vitamins such as CoQ10, Vitamin E, C, B12, K2, D3, and probiotics and laxatives for constipation in Parkinson? Also is sun exposure dangerous in PD in terms of increasing free radicals in body or is it good for Vit D? Thx
All except laxatives:
Are fine, though there is not much evidence that vit E is helpful. Except Exercise! That is apparently emerging as one of the most helpful things you can do for PD AND the good news for you is it also helps constipation.
You should of course drink LOTS of fluids and eat fruits, veg, and fiber. If you must take a laxative, use a fiber laxative. Good luck! ...Read more

3 months april-september. 30 min sun exposure at noon 4x/week. No sunscreen (for vitamin d) my skin is thicker and brown. Is it damaged?
Yes: Darkening of the skin as a result of sun exposure is a symptom of skin damage and the body's attempt to mitigate this damage. In miami you probably should be getting no more than 10-15 minutes of unscreened sun exposure a day for vitamin d production. Taking supplements would be another alternative if you are relatively fair skinned. ...Read more
I've had like one day of sun exposure in the past 3 months or more. I'm a black man, can I be vitamin d deficient? Ps, I have a bad diet.
So I have been diagnosed with vitamin d deficiency and I am only 20 y/o male. How can I increase vitamin d other than sun exposure? Through food?
D3, 5000-8000 IU day: When diet and sun exposure are insufficient to raise vitamin d levels many physicians recommend a daily dose of 5, 000-8, 000 iu of vitamin d3. Once 25 hydroxy vitamin d levels reach 60 - 80, the daily dose (5, 000-8, 000) is usually cut in half and the patient followed to ensure the new dose is able to maintain therapeutic vitamin d levels. ...Read more
My vitamin d was so low cleveland clinic has be take 50000 units a week for 8 weeks. That brought it up to the bottom of the range. I now take 10000 per day to maintain my level. Why do I need so much. I get regular sun exposure?
Probably don't need: There I s much debate regarding how much vitamin d a person needs. Some say below 10 is deficiency, others below 30, while even others say below 40. It is fat soluble vitamin which means it may be stored in fat and not always detectable in the blood. Try wild salmon and fortified foods and don't exceed 1, 000 iu per day. If you don't have any symptoms that should be okay. Try another lab as well. ...Read more

Can I prevent rickets in my exclusively breast-fed child through sun exposure alone? I exclusively breast-feed my son. Is it possible to prevent rickets with sun exposure instead of giving him vitamin d drops?
Probably yes: Rickets is a metabolic bone disease related to vitamin D deficiency. It is associated with severe malnutrition, and on rare conditions, genetic defects of metabolism. Vitamin D is necessary to convert calcium to its usable, absorbable form. There are dietary sources of vitamin D as well as vitamin D conversion with sunlight exposure. Unless your child is severely malnourished, they should be ok. ...Read more
