Had a migraine all day. Took 2 doses of 100mg of Imitrex (sumatriptan). Trying to decide where to go next. Cambia/Zomig route or Sumavel?
Cambia only: If you've used 200mg of sumatriptan in a day you've used your limit, no more triptans (that includes zomig (zolmitriptan) and sumavel) today. Cambia is an NSAID, so that's ok. Exceeding Migraine isn't working, Zomig (zolmitriptan) makes my jaw tight, and head hurt worse, I take Phenergan with it as well, Imitrex does the same as Zomig (zolmitriptan).?
Change protocol: First, try to prevent the headaches, and Botox may be answer, but you could take daily riboflavin, Co-Q10, butterbur, feverfew. Yes, but: More than 2 doses of each on the same day has not been well studied. Funny thing about this is there is an upper limit on daily dose of each drug per fda, but no upper limit on combination. We really don't know effect of 4 doses. They do work on the same body system and should have additive effect if dosed together. Both triptans: Each might stop a migraine if taken within the first 60-90 mins of headache onset, and both have a brief half-life, about 3-4 hrs. Maxalt comes as tablet or mlt which can dissolve in mouth. Zomig (zolmitriptan) available as nasal spray, which may resolve headache within 15 min, but tablet and zmt dissolving forms are both available. Might use one or other based on results. ...Read more

Both may & many othe: Zomig (zolmitriptan) is a tryptan, which is in a group very commonly used to rx migraine, best taken as soon as feel it coming on (aura). Periactin is med used as an antihistamine for allergic skin reactions, but also migraine. Sulfa & Codeine:
Hello. You shouldn't have problems with taking codeine just because you have an allergy to sulfa. If you take a dose of codeine BY ITSELF and experience an allergic reaction, it would be unrelated to sulfa.
As for codeine and opioids in general, they aren't recommended to be used long term for migraines pain mgmt. This class of meds carries long term side effects which you will want to avoid. ...Read more

I took 5mg flexeril 24 hrs ago and just took 50mg Imitrex (sumatriptan). Anything to worry about?
No probem: In theory there is a risk this combination may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. You can discuss this with your physician but this may be more of a theoretical risk as in practice I do not see this as a usual problem. Serotonin is a chemical your body produces that's needed for your nerve cells and brain to function. But too much serotonin causes symptoms that can range from mild (shivering and diarrhea) to severe (muscle rigidity, fever and seizures).
