Had a migraine all day. Took 2 doses of 100mg of Imitrex (sumatriptan). Trying to decide where to go next. Cambia/Zomig route or Sumavel?

Cambia only: If you've used 200mg of sumatriptan in a day you've used your limit, no more triptans (that includes zomig (zolmitriptan) and sumavel) today. Cambia is an NSAID, so that's ok. Given the meds you are on it sounds like you have a neurologist but it's time for you to see a headache sub-specialist! ...Read more

I took 5mg flexeril 24 hrs ago and just took 50mg Imitrex (sumatriptan). Anything to worry about?

No probem: In theory there is a risk this combination may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. You can discuss this with your physician but this may be more of a theoretical risk as in practice I do not see this as a usual problem. But too much serotonin causes symptoms that can range from mild (shivering and diarrhea) to severe (muscle rigidity, fever and seizures). Severe serotonin syndrome can be fatal if not treated. ...Read more

Why is Imitrex (sumatriptan) for migraine limited by health insurance companies to 9 pills a month?

Contracts: A health insurance policy is basically a contract between you and the issuing company. They agree to cover certain procedures or medications up to the limits set in the policy & you agree to pay a certain premium. Some policies will exclude procedures or medications not on their "approved"list. Read the fine print, your insurer will never give you more than the contract specifies. They would go broke. ...Read more
