Jury's out: Cane sugar is sucrose, which is made of glucose and fructose. Corn syrup is mainly fructose. The big problem is probably not from the molecule itself but from how it's added to everything because it is cheap. Processed food has so much added sweetener to make up for lack of flavor that we're addicted to it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If eating foods with wheat gives one nasal congestion & headache & edema but celiac testing is negative, is that a wheat allergy or intolerance?
Can stress effect blood sugar levels - lowering them? Not diabetic. Usual breakfast of miniwheats giving me reactive hypoglycemia all week.
Stress increases: Glucose. I have never seen a real case of reactive hypoglycemia. The disorder doesn't exist, if you're overweight the symptoms are a natural response to your glucose level returning to normal. A glucose tolerance test (if you've had one) is not and never will be a valid diagnostic test for hypoglycemia. Don't waste your money o GTT or any fad diets of treatments. Lose wt if heavy. ...Read more
Tested -ve for wheat allergy but great relief to gas and lethargy and digestion aftr gluten free diet.low b12, iron ,vit d. Am i gluten sensitive?
Likely: Wheat allergy is different from gluten sensitivity which requires tests like IgAtTG or genetic markers to detect. With low B12, iron etc, I suspect that you do have gluten intolerance and need to avoid all gluten. If possible get to a GI doctor since the IgA tTG is unreliable when off gluten. Avoidance and supplement for nutrient and vitamin replacement is the key. ...Read more

Yes: If you take medication for diabetes, 8 oz of juice or skin milk or 3 quick-dissolving glucose tablets are effective therapy. If you're not on diabetes medication, you don't have hypoglycemia, so don't take anything -- it will just perpetuate the problem. No one gets hypoglycemic without cancer, end-stage renal or liver disease, GI surgery or other medical problems. ...Read more
Normal glucose test. Can eating lots of sugar (cookies) and carbs in 3 days reverse normalcy and cause gestational diabetes? 108 glucose 19.6 BMI 25w
Short-term sugar OK: Secondary forms of diabetes (not the autoimmune insulin-requiring types), including the gestational type, are caused by cells become desensitized to insulin. This happens when Insulin levels are always high due to high sugar intake. It takes time; pregnancy just adds to the process. Three days of cake or girl scout cookies won't do anything if you weren't already heading that way. ...Read more
