Suffering from severe cold. What should I do?

Extreme cold: Get rest, drink plenty of fluids, for fever take ibuprofen/advil/motrin, for congestion take decongestant like sudafed, tylenol (acetaminophen) cold or nyquil day/night. For thick nasal mucous or thick phlegm use Mucinex or Robitussin (mucolytic). I'm suffering from severe cold and mild fever 99.2f including headache and ear pain for past 4days .consult 2 doctors but still im not recovered.

I'm suffering from severe cold and mild fever 99.2f including headache and ear pain for past 4days .consult 2 doctors but still im not recovered.

Be patient: The average common cold lasts 7-10 days and can have significant fever. If you've ben sick 4 days, I would not expect you to feel better yet. Colds are caused by viruses, and there is no cure. Your immune system has to get over the infection on its own. Medicines can be helpful for symptoms, but they will not make the illness resolve any faster. Get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, feel better! ...Read more

I am suffering frm severe cold cough my senses like smelling, hearing and taste r almost lost, I am taking amoxicillin but no use what should I do?

Respiratory Illness: Not uncommon to have your senses of taste, smell, and hearing be altered when you have an infection. Takes time for the antibiotics to work and sometimes it is actually a virus causing the symptoms so the antibiotics don't really help with that. Over the counter decongestants may help but really the best medicine for the senses/ symptoms is time. ...Read more

My 8month old baby daughter got severe cold and a bit of coughing due to dust she is suffering with nose blockn breathing igv her sterile nose lotion?

No one gets...: ...A cold from dust. Colds are caused by viruses, the most common being rhinovirus. An aspirating device of some sort can help clear the congestion, and saline nose drops can be of some help also. Lotions are for the skin; i don't know of any lotion that will help with a cold. ...Read more

Can we take combination of clavam 625 and Montek-LC for severe cold?

Can we take combination of clavam 625 and Montek-LC for severe cold?

I believe that: Clavam is the veterinarian name for the antibiotic amoxicillan/ clavulonic acid (brand Augmentin). Not sure what montek lc is, but unless evaluated by a physician DO NOT take antibiotics capriciously as they will not be helpful for a viral infection and could actually be dangerous, The lower veterinarian dose may not be therapeutic and only serve to promote further resistance in time. ...Read more

I m 27 years. Have a severe cold. Any remedy?

I m 27 years. Have a severe cold. Any remedy?

Homeopathic therapy: While there is no cure for the common cold, many things you can do can reduce it's severity. Drinking plenty of fluids, steam inhalation & gentle gargling can make your throat feel better. There is some evidence for supplemental zinc therapy, and many believe that vitamin c can help as well, but high doses pass right through your body, so 500mg 4x/day should be sufficient, as well as 220mg zinc. ...Read more

For what reasons do we lose our sense of taste and smell when we have severe cold?

For what reasons do we lose our sense of taste and smell when we have severe cold?

Inflammation: When one has a viral upper respiratory infection, the mucous membranes within the nasal cavities become swollen. The olfactory (smell) nerve comes from the brain and enters the nose through the cribriform plate. The nerve endings detect the odorants that are inhaled through the nose. The swelling associated with a cold prevents smells from being sensed. Taste is impaired without sense of smell. ...Read more

Is it possible to get oral thrush from having a severe cold?

Is it possible to get oral thrush from having a severe cold?

Coated tongue?: Oral yeast infection (thrush) is not a likely consequence of a common cold, even a severe one. If you have a white coated tongue, it probably isn't thrush. Coated tongue is different and extremely common with almost any medical problem, including colds, changes in nutrition, and other causes. Not a worry; it will clear up on its own. But see your doctor if you remain concerned. ...Read more
